Catskill Cherries in the Snow

To anyone who knows me, it’s pretty obvious: I like my traditions. If something makes me happy, there’s a good chance I’ll do it over and over again. I’m comfortable with repetition.

Twelve years ago, on my birthday, I was at Plattekill having the time of my life. I decided to pay it forward and buy a round for the house. It was my present to the mountain and myself. I talked to people about Plattekill and skiing, and why they were there. Why we were all there. Yes, it became a tradition; I’ve skied at Plattekill on my birthday every year since.

Greek Peak: Monday Morning Zig

In case you didn’t notice, it snowed last weekend. Across the East snow starved skiers and riders flocked to mountains, especially on Sunday. Disheartening lift line photos were shared on social media, some hundreds of people deep.

To maximize stoke it was important to strategize. For me the decision was easy: take Monday off and get the leftovers. After riding in the NYSB gang at Plattekill on Sunday, I shifted gears to Greek Peak for Monday morning.

Like the weather this winter, Farah and I got a late start getting to Greek. We rolled in at 11 and the parking lot was busier than we expected. Don’t these people have jobs?

Snow Ridge Goon Jam 2

Goon Jam 2 kicked off it’s tour right here in NY at Snow Ridge. Tour stops are at independent resorts across the country, and the focus is on supporting family-owned businesses while spreading the love of snowboarding.

Despite the truly $hitty weather over the previous few weeks the Ridge was ready. GM Nick told me the snow we were riding on was made over a month ago. As expected the park setup was on point, after the park crew and Flower Skate Shops boys worked through Friday night getting it ready.The layout was sweet, up top a few corrugated tubes and rails were buried for jibbing and stalling.
