Ski Day 6: I have this friend James. He says…tele is too much work. “Why do you want to work so hard? Just have fun like a normal human being. Come over to the dark side of the force…”

For starters I overslept this morning, in response to the whuppin I took yesterday. When you’re going skiing and you wake up…because the sun woke you up…well that’s too darn late to be waking up. It was zero degrees at 7am and perfectly clear. An inch of superlight fluff had fallen overnight. I had a cup of Joe, grabbed my gear and headed down the hill.

Ski Day 5: It was snowing last night when I got to the cabin. It snowed pretty hard most of the night.

I’d say we got about 8 or 9 inches by morning. I couldn’t sleep. I was constantly waking up and shining a headlamp out side to see if it was still snowing. It was. All snow up until 5:00 am which was when I finally just got up.

At 7:30 I walked down the path. A little crunch. In the last hour or so some sleet had fallen. I drove down the road towards the mountain. There were some turkeys in the road. When I got to the mountain, I got a parking spot valued at $10. The Lodge was empty.

But somehow the road never really got slick. The ground was warm enough and the air temp was not that cold either. On the NWS ALY county forecast map there were two counties I had to pass through with freezing rain warnings but Warren County — my destination — was right in the center of the Winter Storm Warning. It’s a classic type for me.
