Dry Hill: Finally Dry

In 2010, I began work on NYSkiBlog’s Directory of NY Ski Areas to educate myself about New York skiing. In the process, I learned about Dry Hill, the other Tug Hill ski area. It’s a beautiful ski hill on a ripple in the terrain, a few miles south of Watertown. Dry Hill has a magic all her own.

There’s a lot to like about Dry Hill. Dry has a double chair, a T-bar and a magic carpet serving 7 trails on 42 acres; 1.5 miles of terrain with 300 feet of vertical drop. It’s not too surprising that both the double and the T-bar were made by the venerable Hall Ski Lift Company — which was also based in Watertown NY — from 1955 until 1982.

Indy Pass: 30 More Resorts, 3 More in NY

GRANBY, COLORADO—Indy Pass announced today that Loveland Resort in Colorado is among 52 resorts added to the Indy Pass since the end of last season including 11 in Japan, five in Europe, and three in Quebec, Canada.

Thirty of those resorts were announced at a media event in NYC last night. Marquis areas include Loveland Ski Area in Colorado; 12 resorts in Innsbruck, Austria; Bear Valley, California; and Massif du Sud in Quebec. Three ski clubs from New York are also on the list.

With the capacity these new resorts add, Indy Pass will release a limited quantity of passes for sale today while supplies last. This will be the final sale of the 24/25 season.

Late Season Magic

This season I’ve been a dedicated New Yorker. I’ve managed to log 50+ days without crossing any state borders. The last storm delivered some late season magic in April. I had options in New York but I was ready to try something new.

Red Chair

Magic was in the 12-18 inch zone on the NWS maps being published before the storm, and the mountain’s reputation for low key and crowdlessness piqued my interest. I planned to ride solo on Friday and meet up with Tiffany and Evan for Saturday and Sunday on my Indy Pass.

At 5:30 a.m. Friday morning I was on the road and moving along, pleasantly surprised how clean the roads were given the storm that had just passed through.
