Greek Peak Press Conference: June 13, 2013

Greek-Peak-LogoAt a press conference today in the Hope Lake Lodge, the new owners of Greek Peak announced that the resort is getting a fixed-grip quad lift with conveyor loading to replace its frontside lift 1A. The $2 million Doppelmayr is to be installed by next winter on an ambitious schedule, John Meier and Marc Stemerman announced at press conference at the resort’s Hope Lake Lodge. It represents the bulk of $3 million in improvements they plan for next season.

Other upgrades include improvements to snowmaking plumbing along Iliad to fix leaks; a new grooming machine; a new bar, outdoor deck and pizza oven at Orion’s Pub, the main tavern in the resort’s base lodge, a gear tuning center with state-of-the-art equipment and a new rental fleet of skis and snowboards from Rossignol.

Greek Peak, NY: 2/26/10

A foot and a half at home, and Greek Peak also reported 18 inches. When I drove down my unplowed driveway snow billowed over the hood and into the windshield. Subaru face shots in the driveway!

I was surprised to see a lift line up 15 minutes before opening. I got on the 5th chair. I thought yesterday was great, today was even better. The snow was light and powdery and DEEP.

I started out alone and skied top-to-bottom without stops, visiting all the ungroomed and untracked places. I ran into Marilyn on Chair 4, and we hit Chair 5 just as it opened. There was a lot of fresh snow on the trails and in the woods on the east side. I did 5 laps until Alsops and Arethusa were completely tracked out.

Greek Peak, NY: 1/13/10

The afternoon was quiet in the office, with everyone at meetings. Emails were sent and it wouldn’t be until tomorrow that they would get read. A rare sight out the window: blue skies and sunshine with temps near 30. Two more inches of snow fell at Greek Peak in the last 24 hours. The hill was calling.

In fact it has been snowing 2-3″ every day for the last 2 weeks. A very dry and light snow. With the sunshine, the snow seemed to shrink quite a bit today, but it was a worthwhile trade-off from the near zero weather we’ve been having.

My friend and full time ski patroller, Acid Christ, spent the afternoon with me, skiing in the woods, finding fluffy stashes of powder here and there and flying down steep groomers at mach speed.
