Hunter Mountain has released photos and video footage of what will be New York State’s first high-speed six-pack detachable chair: the “Kaatskill Flyer.” The new lift could be a game-changer for Hunter on busy weekends and holidays.

And, next summer, Hunter is planning to replace the two old fixed-grip lifts on its famed West Side with a new quad, as well as adding more snowmaking to cover the steep expert terrain.

Gore Mountain Progress Report

Snowmaking Pipe on Peaceful Valley

“Our off season is progressing. The work on redeveloping the historic North Creek Ski Bowl is coming along. The 1946 T-bar has been removed. We installed the new triple chair’s motor room, operator building, and transformer last fall.

This year we’ve completed the bridge over Roaring Brook, lift’s top terminal, trail work on Oak Ridge, Moxham, and Peaceful Valley, and the snowmaking pipe installation on Oak Ridge.

We’re currently installing the snowmaking on Eagle’s Nest and Peaceful Valley, as well as forming all tower foundations for the new lift.

Gore Mountain Terrain Update 2010

I had a chance to see much of the new terrain at Gore with Mike Pratt on Saturday. Progress looked good. We started up Wild Air to see the new “low-angle learning glade” Chatterbox.

We checked out the center line that’s been cut to the skier’s right on Wild Air. This “new” tree shot is actually the rebirth of something that had been skied in the recent and distant past. Mike’s goal for the run is to keep it close enough to the trail to allow the glade to capture snowmaking blow-by from the trail.
