Flower Shop Rail Jam at Snow Ridge

Despite the rapid approach of the end of the season, I’ve had an amazing few weeks. I followed up BB2 with a deep Monday at Jay Peak. Then this weekend I hit up the second annual Flower Skateshop Rail Jam at Snow Ridge. Like Berms and Brews the park jam has become one of my favorite events. This year the guys from FlowerSkateShop and Snow Ridge really upped their game.

Saturday morning was still crispy at 9:30am when I pulled into the Ridge. I ran into Flower Shop rider and style guru Nick in the parking lot and asked how it was looking. He had helped set up the day before and with the freezing temperatures overnight, the features were set in nicely.

Jay Peak: When It Rains It Snows

Storms are fickle things on the east coast, especially in March. A storm raises ropes at one ski resort and drop ropes at another. While it was raining in much of ski country the Jay Cloud was forming just south of the Canadian border. Cam, John and I trekked north to chase some late March pow.

We arrived Monday before lifts started spinning, and scored ourselves an upfront parking spot. In defense of March, that is one of the perks this time of the season.

It was 10 degrees at the base, snow was coming down and the wind was whipping. I lowered my expectations for The Tram and The Flyer but raised them for everything else. It’s safe to say I was counting on an all time day.

Hunt Hollow: Berms, Bruises and Brews 2

For the second year in a row, snowboarders across New York gathered on a dreary spring morning at the Hunt Hollow Ski Club. They walked through the rain and mud, six packs in hand, to enter Berms, Bruises and Brews 2. The snowboarding community came to celebrate the sport we love.

As I walked to the lodge Saturday morning, it felt more like a family reunion than a race meet. I was greeted by loads of familiar faces including those from my home mountain, Woods Valley. The Woods crew was already geared up in the lot and ready to go when I arrived. At the sign-in table Dan from Flour City Distribution was running the show and Joe the Hunt Hollow GM was greeting the riders as they streamed in.
