Skip Barber Winter Driving School at Hunter

Winter driving skills can make or break a powder day. After all the discussions about tires and all wheel drive, the most important component in your vehicle is still the driver. Years of winter driving have made many of us comfortable on snowy roads.

But, how many of us have actually had any real driving instruction since drivers ed in high school? Taking that one step further, how about winter driving instruction?

Skip Barber Racing School has been offering various forms of driving instruction since 1975. Hunter Mountain has invited Skip Barber Racing School to offer a Winter Driving School event starting Monday night February 24 and continuing on Tuesday February 25.

Unconscious Video from the Ski Bowl

My days on the hill are taken up by skiing and photography.  I don’t hesitate to admit it, blogging is my second favorite sport.

Good photos are key. For one thing, people are much more likely to read what you’ve written if you have sharp, imaginative images. Moreover, the words seem to come more easily when I’ve got five or six solid shots.

On the other hand, we rarely post original video on NYSkiBlog. It’s takes knowledge and energy to create compelling motion pictures.  Even if I was capable, taking good video takes too much away from the experience of skiing.  As evidence: there is only one video posted on our YouTube channel.

North Country Hardship Fund and Wayne Stock VI

Once again the North Country Hardship Fund presents Wayne Stock at the Ski Bowl in North Creek. The annual, BYO, rain or shine, blockbuster fundraising event with free entry, auctions, raffles, food and non-stop music is on August 3 from 12 noon to 11pm.

The North Country Hardship Fund is a not-for-profit organization that started with a benefit in 2008 called Wayne Stock. The original event was designed to raise funds for Wayne Bukovinsky who needed help after a serious accident.

Before that time Wayne was living the life, part of a great community, surrounded by friends and family. He found the love of his life in high school. He joined the Navy, traveled abroad and raised two children. After leaving the military, he pursued the career of his dreams — a “Road Dawg” — traveling with major title bands listening to the music that came to define him.
