Most of what was groomed stayed petrified all day. Some sections that had sun all day softened up. Some of the trails were corduroy and some were frozen ice balls that never broke up.

“ORDA planning for $1M less than it expected”
LAKE PLACID – The Olympic Regional Development Authority anticipates receiving $1 million less than expected in the 2010-11 fiscal year. According to ORDA spokesman Jon Lundin, ORDA’s Board of Directors learned of the proposed budget cuts after Gov. David Paterson announced his Executive Budget in February. ORDA may receive $5.7 million instead of an expected $6.7 million from the state.
I woke up this morning in North River around 6:00 and headed to Whiteface at 7:30. I arrived at 9am, parked in the River Lot, and walked right onto the Gondi.
Whiteface is big, it’s really big. You know it. I know it too. But today, I came “face-to-face” with it. For starters the Gondi is big. It crosses a huge exposure before getting to the top.
Even with only ONE trail open Whiteface is big. Excelsior to Summit Express to Upper Valley covers half the Gondi run and maybe 1500 feet of vertical. The mountain’s single opening day run just goes on and on.
