Christmas Holiday at Titus

We left home in Western New York around noon on Friday after a few consecutive days of holiday festivities. With sleet in the forecast locally, we planned to hit the road and make the best of our time off of work.

When holiday crowds swell and conditions feel uncertain, Evan and I often find ourselves heading north to Titus Mountain. A place we trust for consistently great snow, zero lift lines, and a refreshingly stress-free ski experience, even during the busiest weeks of the season. As we drove north toward Malone, muddy ground slowly gave way to a blanket of snow and single-digit temperatures.

Song Mountain: Surprise Jackpot

There’s something special about setting out on a ski road trip with no expectations other than spending quality time on the slopes. That’s exactly how Evan and I felt as we headed north from Ithaca, making our way to Song Mountain in Tully, NY, for the first time.

With a string of recent weekends spent chasing powder and the mixed precipitation earlier in the week, we were prepared for mixed conditions. But winter had other plans, and we were in for an incredible surprise.

As we drove past Cortland, it was as if we crossed into a snow globe. Seemingly in the blink of an eye, the landscape transformed, coated in a fresh blanket of lake-effect snow.

Oak Mountain: Head East for Pow

For the second weekend in a row, Evan and I made a last-minute call to chase fresh lake-effect snow. We planned to explore two new New York ski areas on Saturday before the storm rolled in, keeping our eyes set on the prize, Sunday, at Oak Mountain. With home base in the Finger Lakes, it’s a haul to the Adirondacks, but when conditions look promising we don’t hesitate.

With a weekend of new mountain exploration ahead, we met up with Robert kicked things off Saturday morning at Cazenovia Ski Club before squeezing in some afternoon laps at Woods Valley.
