Hook Mountain, NY: 6/22/10

People think that since we live only 40 minutes north of New York City, we are surrounded by concrete and suburban sprawl. Hook Mountain has great views of the Tappan Zee bridge, and on a clear day, you can see the city.

My daughter Zoe and I went on a hike this morning that’s five minutes from our house and 10 minutes north of the bridge.

Hunter Mtn, NY: 4/2/10

Hunter Mountain

Forecast today for the Catskills was sunny with a high around 75, so my daughters and I went skiing. We arrived around 9 to a quickly-filling parking lot. Temps last night went down to around 40 so the snow firmed up.

Racers Edge

We started on Hellgate which was softening quickly in the sun with nice small bumps. We stripped down to t-shirts after the first run.

Mad River Glen, VT: 3/19/10

Since my daughter Zoe had no school on Friday, we decided to head to Vermont – Mad River Glen was our destination. Considering Mad makes NO SNOW, the coverage was excellent.

The only green trail on the hill, was the only groomed run. Everything else was wall to wall bumps, but they were perfectly soft. The woods were also bumped but skied beautifully.

Mad River is fascinating and completely fun – nothing cookie-cutter about it. Intermediate trails like Antelope and Catamount would be black diamonds on any other hill in the northeast.
