Hunt Hollow: Berms, Bruises and Brews 2

For the second year in a row, snowboarders across New York gathered on a dreary spring morning at the Hunt Hollow Ski Club. They walked through the rain and mud, six packs in hand, to enter Berms, Bruises and Brews 2. The snowboarding community came to celebrate the sport we love.

As I walked to the lodge Saturday morning, it felt more like a family reunion than a race meet. I was greeted by loads of familiar faces including those from my home mountain, Woods Valley. The Woods crew was already geared up in the lot and ready to go when I arrived. At the sign-in table Dan from Flour City Distribution was running the show and Joe the Hunt Hollow GM was greeting the riders as they streamed in.

Holimont: Celebrating Telemark

Western New York has a strong contingent of telemark skiers. Like the rest of the northeast, each of our ski areas has a passionate group of locals dedicated to making the telemark turn. There is enough of a critical mass to host two telemark festivals, each with their own style and culture.

Every year, Holiday Valley hosts Telestock, organized and operated by The City Garage, the Friday after Presidents day. Telestock is a classic celebration of the telemark culture complete with grilling sausages, beer, free telemark ski and boot demos, and free group instruction for a range of ability levels from first timers to experts.

Another Classic Bristol Saturday

Saturday looked like it was going to be prime after Friday’s storm. My old friend Dave was in town so we made plans to ski. We had grown up riding together at Bristol, so it’s always great to get together on those same slopes. We met up late morning with our significant others.

It was shortly after ten when we pulled into Bristol and made our way in from the outer lots. It was a beautiful sunny morning and people were already taking advantage of it.

After a short wait for the Comet Express we were up the hill to start our day. It was a perfect groomer day and the recent snow really help keep things soft.
