Our goal is to write the history of every living ski area in New York. Together editor Harvey and contributor Peter Minde, with help from others, have written Whiteface, Belleayre, Hunter, Mount van Hoevenberg and Minnewaska/Mohonk. Obviously there is a lot of work ahead.
- The History of Belleayre Ski Center
- The History of Hunter Mountain
- The History of Mohonk and Minnewaska
- The History of Mount van Hoevenberg
- The History of Whiteface Ski Center
There are at least two big rocks that need to be moved. The history of Gore is a huge one, if it is going to be complete, starting back when skiing started in the area and on the mountain. For this effort we’ll need help with timelines, facts and images with rights to use them. We have a big Gore audience, many families have long history with the mountain, and some were there at the beginning.
Another feature that has to be considered a top priority is the history of Plattekill. I’m the logical author, it requires a time commitment and a post-pandemic environment where I could come to Roxbury to spend the night. We’d have to interview the Hinkleys and Vajtays as a long day in the off-season.
As mentioned, we want to write all the New York ski histories starting with the oldest areas and working our way forward. If you can help with images or content for any New York State ski history please contact us.
