Record Winter Storm

The Blizzard of 1888 – March 11-14, 1888

“All blizzards are measured by this event. It remains the worst storm in living memory in the northeast US. The City of Albany was shut down. There was no heat, road closures, and doctors were unable to make house calls. Light snow began mid-afternoon on March 11th accumulating to 3 inches by midnight. Snow intensified overnight, accumulating 18 inches of snow by day break. Total snowfall by March 14th was 46.7 inches, and the drifts were significantly higher.”
