Snow Ridge Ski Resort is located in Turin, NY on the eastern edge of the Tug Hill plateau. The hill has 5 lifts, 31 trails and an advertised vertical drop of 500 feet, with some modest and often excellent sidecountry too.
Snow Ridge’s location and elevation — downwind from Lake Ontario and more than 1000 feet up on the Tug — puts it in an almost ideal position for snowfall. The Ridge claims an average of 230 inches each year and that’s a legitimate number, it is not marketing.
The ski area can be divided into at least five distinct areas: North Slope, South Slope, Snow Pocket, The Ravine and what we call “The Ridge.” Regardless of what lifts are spinning it can all be accessed if you are willing to hike a little bit.
Snow Ridge is a crucial part of a New York powderhound’s quiver of go-to ski areas. Often, and especially in bad years, it’s one of the best places in the state to find lift-served untracked powder. Like most ski hills — if you are there on the right day, and you know where you are going — you are likely to have a great time.
New York skiers: if you can enjoy short vert, and value deep powder without much competition, Snow Ridge should be on your radar. Note that Snow Ridge is now part of the Indy Pass.
