Known for its outstanding programs in forestry and hospitality, Paul Smiths College boasts a 3000 acre property the Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) that serves a dual purpose. The VIC serves as an outdoor classroom for forestry students. There are 40+ kilometers of trails available for hiking in dryland season. Come winter, they’re a haven for skiers and snowshoers. Ski alongside Heron Marsh, try your hand at the FIA-approved race trails, or make your way around the Loggers Loop.
A couple of years ago, the redoubtable Ron Konowitz developed backcountry ski trails on Jenkins Mountain for alpine skiers who want to earn their turns. You’ll need a helmet, climbing skins, and a trail pass to access these. For full details, see the VIC’s Jenkins Mountain web page.
