Big Vanilla at Davos — or just Davos as it was originally called — was an “upside-down” ski resort with a lodge at the summit and a 330-foot vertical drop. Located 85 miles northwest of New York City, in Woodridge NY, the ski area offered 23 trails and a $4.50 lift ticket.
When it opened in the late 1950s it was the larger than the other ski areas in Sullivan County, including Grossinger’s, Kutsher’s, the Concord, the Nevele, the Pines and Holiday Mountain. At it’s peak the Big Vanilla ski resort served as many as 5,000 skiers on a busy day with a quad chairlift, a J-bar, double chair and two T-bars.
