Holiday Mountain in Monticello NY was built by the town of Thompson; it opened in December of 1957. In summer, it featured wide range of activities including go-karts, bumper boats, bumper cars, rock wall, mini golf, fun slide and batting cages.
The mountain was sold to private holders in 2000. The new owners closed terrain and added a summer fun-park. Years of neglect lead to erosion problems which required new drainage systems, stabilization, culverts and seeding.
The most exciting news in years for Holiday Mountain, is the change in ownership. Mike Taylor, a Monticello resident —and the great grandson of the original landowners — is a lifelong skier who bought Holiday in May of 2023. Mike’s Bridgeville Ski Company has rebuilt the entire ski area from the ground up. Holiday reclaimed overgrown trails, widen existing runs, added thousand of feet of snowmaking pipe, quadrupled pumping capacity.
In four summers, the resort now features 20 trails serviced by two new lifts; a triple and quad as well as a completely rebuilt Poma triple on the South Pod. Holiday has a new learning center with a conveyor lift, instructor staff, a new terrain park mid-mountain with it’s own rope tow, 100% new snowmaking system and lights on every trail for night skiing.
In the summer of 2025, the Fun Park was removed to expand the tubing hill, and the to make room for the rebirth of “The Bowl.”
In addition Holiday has added the “River Lodge” for the snow-tubing park with a new Sun-Kid conveyor lift and colored lights for nighttime use. The fun-park was demolished and Holiday opened a new day camp in 2026 with every amenities for summer campers. Plans for next year include a lodge expansion and continued erosion control.
Winter sports include downhill skiing, snowboarding, terrain park and snow tubing. The beginner area and Snow Sports School, as well as special deals like the “Kinderski Program” for ages 4-6 and “family night,” make learning pleasurable for all ages. There are currently six trails for skiers and snowboarders, as well as four tubing runs. Ski chalet and café on site.
The mountain — at 155 acres — is bigger than it looks, and has some surprising pitch.
