The EC map for public alerts section of weather.gc.ca, isn’t easy to embed, so for now we will link to it.

Weather Warnings show in red, watches in yellow, and gray indicates that a special weather statement has been issued for the area.

Ontario

There are more than 30 ski areas in Ontario. Several fall roughly in the triangle bounded by Toronto, Ottawa and North Bay. Mount St. Louis/Moonstone is and Horseshoe are relatively close to Toronto. Sir Sam’s and Hidden Valley Highlands are farther north near Algonquin Park. Calabogie Peaks is toward Ottawa. Antoine Mountain is close to North Bay and Searchmont is near Lake Superior in Sault-Ste Marie.

Quebec

Eastern Canada has a long skiing tradition and includes several fantastic ski areas that should be on your hit list. In the Eastern Townships, Bromont, Sutton, Owl’s Head and Mont Orford are just across the border from Vermont.

The Laurentians feature more than a dozen ski areas with Mont Tremblant, Mont Saint-Sauveur/Avila, Mont Blanc, and Mont Alta being among the most well-known.

North of Quebec City, Mont Saint-Anne, Massif du Sud, and Le Massif offer dramatic top-to-bottom skiing with views of the Saint Lawrence River.

The Chic Chocs and the Gaspe

In a far northeast corner of Quebec lies the Gaspe Peninsula, a 150-mile long landmass with mountains, significant snowfall, a long season and lots of public land. The mountains are quite exposed and it can be very windy. The huge upside is easy roadside access to spectacular east coast terrain. There are a few ski resorts.

Dreamers and doers should check the Murdochville forecast when the zone has an alert. If you are traveling to the peninsula in season, always check the avy report.

The Gîte du Mont-Albert, operated by Parcs Québec, has a variety of lodging options.  You can camp, stay in a cabin or yurt, or choose the hotel.  The cabins are a nice affordable option for those in the Gaspe to maximize outdoor adventure. You can do your own cooking.  Reserve early. They are hard to get and if you wait until it snows you’ll probably miss out. Having some one in your group who speaks French is a big plus.

We want this page to be a go-to source for Eastern Canadian ski weather info, and clearly it has a long way to go. If you’ve got ideas about how to make this page more valuable, post your thoughts here on the Blog or email us.
