Stratton Conditions

I always thought it was much further than it actually is. I have stayed in Lake George quite a bit this year and bounce between Gore (35 minutes) and Whiteface (1:20). Killington also is only 1:20. Was very surprised when Sugarbush turned out to be only 2 hours. It may get me to consider Ikon.
From my house to Gore is like 5 roads. From our place near Gore, it like 25 roads to Killington, and like 65 to Sugarbush. I'm making all those numbers up, but the idea is basically true. It makes North Central VT feel distant in my mind. I feel like driving to Jay (with a lot of 87) is easier than some of the places that are "a little closer."

Well aware of the refreeze situation, but I expected more than one trail off the summit to be groomed.
Your post did not include anything about the freeze thaw situation and the post made it seem that there was no reasonable explanation for what was going on at Stratton Saturday morning. Stratton was not the only ski area with this issue. Your intense detail holds weight. You should not selectively omit your observations that might not support the 'Stratton is a shytshow' narrative.

Maybe it didn’t make the cut for Sno's top 5 b!tches of the day list, just sayin.

I already took that into account. Other ski areas delayed opening parts of the mountain, like Stratton did, and that was entirely justified given the circumstances.

However, the other ski areas regroomed more than one trail in that time. The only reason anything other than Black Bear opened off the summit was because they softened up.

In my opinion, Stratton's snowmaking and grooming have been a joke this year, and Saturday was yet another example of that. I'm not sure why this hasn't garnered more attention, along with Sugarbush's constant lift failures. Seems it's cool to bash Vail for their issues, but Alterra gets a pass.

Awesome afternoon at Stratton. 45f, minimal wind, awesome snow, zero people.

Snow rolling in now. Gondola is broken. Waiting for some kind of chain. Skiing is excellent.
