A wet morning turned into an unexpected powder day at the top. 3 inches by the time I left. However, the lower mountain was very cementy. 6 trails open off the top, those being West Meadow, Drifter, and Spruce off Snow Bowl, and Frank's Fall Line, Polar Bear, and Black Bear off URSA.
Today was above freezing and sunny. Conditions were soft and creamy. Stratton has done a decent job getting a bunch of trails open. They left North American open instead of closed for training. It was a real treat today. There was an inversion that burned off after lunch.
North American, mid mountain Lodge buried in the clouds.
There was a strong warm wind in your face as you rode up Ursa6 and the Snowbowl HSQ. Very strange but showing the strength of tomorrow's storm.
We got to Stratton for 830 start and it was warm and cloudy. The gondola and the snow bowl quad were on wind hold and remained on wind hold until we left at 11am. The top 1/4 was in a dense cloud with a wicked wind. There were all kinds of crazy inversions and moving clouds once you got below the top layer. The snow was mostly soft and fun.
Top was in a dense cloud
There were a lot less people than yesterday.

Surprisingly, Lift Line was opened this week with zero snowmaking. It was pretty beat up. They have not made snow on Lift Line for years. I am not sure of the reason.
Wasn’t a bad day today. We got a lot of runs in give the lack of lines. Warm temps softened things up. Problem was the fog which made for some tough visibility. They had a short bump run and I got a Christmas present pointer on my form from a guy in a Santa hat who was zipper lining it.
Need some advice for a first time visitor to Stratton this weekend.
Will be driving in for the day and not staying overnight. Will be using our Ikon passes. I assume you just show up with no visit to the ticket window? I see no reservation is required.
Day lodges... We're gonna definitely be starting on greens and progressing to blues. Is there a better lodge to store our bags in lockers with better access to greens? Or even more importantly a lodge with less crowding? We will spend only a brief time in the lodge anyway but I want to lock up our bags.
Parking advice. I don't mind paying for good parking. Any good strategy for that? We plan on arriving by 8.
Anything else you can think of?
I'm already getting angst about crowds and trying to mentally prepare
