Stratton Conditions

Today was another great day at Stratton. It was a cold start but the March sun warmed things up. The snow was amazing (shocker) with about 99% of the trails and glades open. There was a mix of groomed and ungroomed, sometimes on the same trail. By about 11 there were bumps everywhere. All the high speed lifts were running with no stops and minimal lines.

Supertrail reopened and awesome
We skied until about 1:30. We had a great day.

Wasn't sure where I was going to ski today, but I decided on Stratton, since they reopened the sun bowl for a bonus weekend, and I slept too late to make first chair at Killington or Whiteface.

The weather started off partly cloudy, then got more cloudy, and eventually the sun came out. As for the conditions, the Sun Bowl was firm in the morning, but the upper mountain was still packed powder. Eventually everything softened up, with varying degrees of stickiness, but it was mostly good. The turnout was rather high for April, but there were little to no lift lines anywhere. My stats for the day are listed below. I rode every open lift multiple times.

12 Snow Bowl
10 Sunrise
8 URSA
4 Amex
3 Gondola

Total of 37 lifts, and 46,250 vertical feet.

Stratton announcement for this Thanksgiving Weekend:

"Here’s what we know, to let you know with transparency. Our Mountain Operations Team has officially made the call: we will not open Friday, and Saturday is not looking promising either. The missing links are sustained cold temperatures, base area access via Suntanner, and overall top-to-bottom base depth for grooming.
Our eyes remain on the prize, and that’s getting you out on the mountain. We are optimistic about the potential to spin lifts on Sunday, but we’ll need cold temperatures every night, so the opening plan remains as fluid as the weather.
We’ll have another Operations update as things evolve, we’re watching a potential incoming system on Thursday, and will provide a go or no-go for Sunday no later than Saturday morning. Keep an eye on the Mountain Report for updates. The good news - the forecast starting Saturday calls for cold temperatures around the clock for potentially 10+ days. We’ll be off and running if that holds true. We appreciate all of your patience, and mostly your passion for the mountain we all call home.
The Village is OPEN this weekend for holiday shopping and dining, including Thanksgiving dinner at Table 43.1. The Gobble Gobble Wobble 5K is on, CLIMB is open, Santa is here, kid’s crafts in the base lodge and so much more. Find the full schedule of this weekend’s events online. Till then, Happy Thanksgiving, and let’s see those snow dances."

IMO Stratton's in a pretty good spot for snowfall the next 5 days.

I bet they make it for Sunday. Maybe even Saturday.

Jason?

How does that make you feel? Lake placid asked then not to blow!

I was just down the road from you at Mount Snow. Conditions were similar! ❄️❄️❄️

A most excellent start to the ski season!
