Stratton Conditions

I went to Stratton today to meet up with my dad, and because they had some of my favorite trails open that I hadn't skied in a while.

A bluebird day in the morning, that gradually got cloudy, and ended with my first time skiing in a thunderstorm on my last few runs.

Normally you can see Bromley from the top of the Sunrise Express. At this point it was just storm clouds. I kept thinking they were going to close early, but the lifts stayed open all the way to 4.

A couple minutes after I took this picture during my last run on Upper Kidderbrook, I saw a huge flash of lightning followed by a loud clap of thunder.

Great ya got to ski with yer Dad.
Did they blow the horn like in golf when the bolts are nearby?
The only time I skied outwest it looked like T-storms devoloping up top after being bluebird cause of the sun baking the ❄️ in early June at the Basin.

We were at Stratton today, also. We had a great day. We skied most of the morning in the Sun Bowl were it was sunny and in the low 50s.
FYI- the Sun Bowl Super Trail was open last March, 2023. I know because I was skiing it during the Mar 4th snowstorm. I also skied it the following Mar 11 weekend.

Standard with the storm clouds starting to show

It was never open any of the days I was there last year, and they never made snow on it. Same with Kidderbrook and Free Fall. Those 3 are among my favorites at Stratton. I also really like Upper Standard.

Today was big wind hold day. Amex/Ursa/Sunbowl/Tamarack were open all day. No gondola or shooting star all day. South American and Snow Bowl on hold until around 1030am. The wind became so strong that Stratton closed going to the left off URSA at about 145pm. The skiing was soft and gluey over ice, a real interesting combo. Kidderbrook was our first run and run of the day.

My sister cranking in the middle of Kidderbrook.

We skied the morning in the Sun Bowl. It was better than expected and we mostly skied right on to the lift.

The snow on lookers right of the Supertrail is fading fast.

There were a ton of international competitors here for the NorAm Bump contest.

It started drizzling after lunch. We called it a day at about 230pm. Happy to be skiing! 😊

Cloud covered Stratton at 7am

Despite the big rain last night, today was one of our best days this season. The sun was cranking and the upper mountain was full of rippable corn. Temps made it to the 50s.

The lifts were ski right on and the trails were empty. The run of the day was Standard.

The lower mountain was slushy mixed with some serious puddles. We did not want to leave.

How do we think conditions will be this weekend at Stratton after the rain all week? Windham is the local mountain but thinking of driving further north to avoid some of the rain hopefully.

Had a nice day skiing with my family. The sun was out at times and there was a big south wind that kept the gondola offline until lunch. The rain did lots of damage. By about 2pm the trails were piles of corn over boilerplate and it was time to go.

Many trails were closed. Stratton is claiming if it gets cold they are going to blow snow.

Still had a great day skiing.

They first picture. Thae snow is fun to ski in April. How do you keep the passion after 40 years?

Heavy directional paste were it is untracked. Lots of rime on the goggles at the top, better below the cloud on the lower sections. The packed out snow is fun.

Today was amazing. At least 20 inches on the mountain and still snowing. Lots of bumps. The woods are back in business. I had to stop a little after 3 as my legs were shot. Tomorrow should be great.

No decent photos due to skiing powder. ;)
