Magic Conditions

Magic was closed from Spring, 1991 to Dec 1997. That is the foundation that made Magic's last 25 years such a mess. The current owners are the 6th since Dec, 1997. Most of the owners were underfunded, including the current owners. All of the owners have faced many unplanned obstacles. It is still not clear if the quad Magic bought from Stratton about 5 years ago is ready to operate.

Laszlo and Danielle Vajtay bought the much smaller Plattekill in 1993 and continue to carefully run it as a 3 day weekend area. They have been excellent owners managing to grow Plattekill while staying within Plattekill's financial limits.

I hope Magic figures it out. It is a great place to ski.

I was referring to storm track and snowfall. This last storm Plattekill got 10 inches, Magic got one.

X-Mas looks to be in serious danger....I think Magic will be the last mountain in VT to open.

Greetings from Londonderry,

It was good to get the snowmaking system going again this week. We just need more cold opportunities to do it!

We had a total of just 48-hours of cold weather all week to make snow, and that allowed the team to work on the base area/terrain park and up higher where it was consistently colder on Upper Magic Carpet down through Medium. The guns are off today as temperatures were lost at 3:00am this morning. All the cold air is getting scoured out through the weekend and into early next week. And, once again, we are looking at another sizeable r**n event. This one is even bigger than last Monday's and stretches from Sunday night into Tuesday with more than 2" of the liquid variety. We can't change the weather, but the weather pattern WILL eventually change. It looks to do so towards New Year's. It's still early and our team had a good couple of days maxing out the snowmaking system with both water and air. The crew can't wait to get back out there sometime next week.

In terms of opening day, there's a bit of uncertainty as we will have to see now what happens with this next wet storm. We will be leaving the snow we made in piles to help preserve it as much as possible. If the cold comes back early/mid next week, then we will certainly give it our best shot to get open next weekend.

Be sure to take advantage of our "Fall Into Winter" day ticket promotion, which goes until we open for skiing, and saves even more on Magic's low online ticket prices by using promo code fallintowinter at check-out for another 20% off instantly.
Lifts: Red's bullwheel bearings have been replaced at the lower terminal with Pfister's team back turning their attention to the Black Quad over the next two weeks installing tower brackets/brittle bars for communications back to the drive system and completion of dialing in that new drive at normal running speed. Once that is completed then she will be ready for load-testing and final inspection, hopefully, right around the New Year. Step-by-step progress so we have this new lift for you heading into peak ski season.

BLT Food & Entertainment: The holiday season is bringing lots of action at the Tavern that you'll want to start planning for! We have SINGO tonight with our Friday Night special of locally-sourced Maple Ridge Wagyu Rib-Eye (while they last)! The Tavern is then open all day Saturday with David Soltz playing from 4-7pm and then NFL games will be on the TVs on Sunday as BLT is open for bloodies and brews from 11am to 6pm. The ticket office will be open Saturday to pick up passes and Sharon in Magic Merchants will be open for shopping both Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm.

Looking ahead, our regular Wednesday through Sunday schedule will follow next week, with Sammy B kicking off the week on Wings Wednesday from 5-8pm,. Then on Saturday the 23rd, the Black Line Winter Music Series begins with the Erica Reynolds Band from 7-10pm! Then during Christmas week, there are live bands both the 30th and 31st with buffet dinner and fireworks on New Year's Eve as well! Also that week, you will not want to miss our Magic Comedy Night: "A Mountain of Laughs". This was sold out two years ago and it's back with some great comedians headlined by Caroline Cooke. There's high top tables of 4 premium seating tickets and general admission.

There's going to be a lot going on here at Magic over the Christmas to New Year's holiday time frame and we can't wait to see you, ski with you, and party with you. Come what may in the short term with weather, the Magic community knows how to make the best of it and appreciate all the ties that bind us together, with the mountain, over the long winter season.

Keeping the soul in skiing,

Geoff

As a frequent Magic pass holder, my outlook is that the current ownership has done a fantastic job of rising Magic from the ashes of the 90's. They've invested in a new lift to the summit, added a mid mountain lift, improved the base lodge, and yet have kept the vibe at Magic the same has it's always been. They've encountered a host of expensive issues over the past few years (the battle to expand the holding pond against VT 250 took years and $$$, for example).

Despite the hardships, Magic now sells out its season passes. They cap skiers on the mountain. They offer free touring. I have no idea if ownership is experiencing a positive ROI yet, but they continue to invest in Magic's future, which is all we can ask for.

And there's still no better mountain in the NE on a powder day.

Not gonna pretend I know much about Magic as I've only been there a few times. From what I could gather despite all the problems, Magic seems to be leaning into being "Skiers mountain", whereas Platty is shifting it's focus and investments into attracting the beginner family crowd.
