SPRINGING FORWARD

"The Pile" is still here for the West River Sports Nordic ski and concert event on 6/3
Greetings from Londonderry!
The mountain is starting to dry out; our snow pile will make it to our June 3rd nordic ski and concert fundraising event for West River Sports; and, our operations and Black Line Tavern teams are getting Magic ready for a fun summer and the 23/24 winter season. We have a little spring in our step as we continually move Magic forward...better and better each year!
Magic Season Passes for 23/24 are also now on sale at our lowest Early Bird pricing tier this spring with a 6-month payment plan to spread costs through November 15th if you purchase prior to June 1. We hope you'll join us here as we preserve and protect Magic as an independent, throwback ski area experience where the skiers and riders who share our passion for this sport are the reason we work hard every day to "make Magic happen".

Our operations team, led by Paul Maitland, has been busy "Spring Cleaning" getting the grounds looking sharp; removing old equipment to create more space for parking; planning new stone walls and turf around the BLT's Alpen Deck for a wedding on June 17th and the restaurant opening on June 22nd; and, getting the Disc Golf baskets in for Magic's course opening this weekend (except for hole 9 which has the snow pile!)

In addition, Dan, Jeff and Russ have been busy on both Red and Green Lifts, getting our annual 20% of chairs off for maintenance and non-destructive testing. To keep ol' Red up to shape, we again are investing in ongoing proactive maintenance and replacement of key parts such as a new bull-wheel liner and bearings at the base, plus new custom-made sheave trains on key towers.
We're meeting with Tim Pfister on the Black Line Quad to nail down a schedule this summer for final tower alignment, new haul rope installation and splicing, and final tower coms and drive work so we can add the Quad for the 23/24 season. And, we're not forgetting about snowmaking as the pond pump/motor gets refurbished; new pipe will be added to replace key leaky sections; and, new hydrants to test and hopefully extend snowmaking up Black Line. All this to help Andrew and his snowmaking crew put out more snow starting early November with our new larger pond, so we can all get out skiing and riding earlier in 23/24!

Josh, Kerry, John and Andre have been planning the re-opening of the
Black Line Tavern restaurant and deck on June 22nd. New menu, new larger deck, more music on Saturdays, the return of Friday SINGO--we can't wait to serve you on what will be THE outdoor dining spot in southern Vermont (or if it gets a bit too humid at times, the indoor comfort of our air-conditioned Tavern). New this summer, the restaurant will be open for lunch as well Thursday-Saturdays and Sunday brunch/lunch. Thursday will feature the return of "locals dinner specials".
We also look forward to some big events here with our big Independence Fireworks show featuring Hunter Wallace followed by the band Sailors Delight on Saturday July 1st from 4-11pm. Then two weeks later it's our first big ticketed concert from the deck on July 15th featuring Rounder Records recording artist John R. Miller and his band, with special guest Wild Leek River, as he brings his summer tour to New England.
Info and tickets are here. And, we will be out there at the T-BAR in just over a week on June 3rd for the West River Sports fundraiser featuring Saints & Liars and nordic skiing on the groomed-out snow pile on Show Off!
Tickets here. So a lot fun to plan for over the next 6 weeks!

With the Memorial Day holiday this weekend, we hope you have a safe and enjoyable time with family and friends. The weather is looking fabulous. I hope we can all take some time on Monday to reflect on this solemn holiday where we remember those who have fallen in service to our country. These are trying times certainly. Apparently angry times. Well, our fellow Americans who've died over the last two centuries protecting us and preserving our way of life deserve us thinking less about ourselves and more about what they died for--just trying to get back to their families and friends to build a joyful life, and looking out for the ones next to them. These service members we memorialize on Monday didn't make it back to what we should be cherishing today--each other--all our differences in full glory. I will try to create some space on Monday to remember and reflect; to be grateful; to try to earn what so many gave the ultimate sacrifice...
Happiness.
Stay well and let's keep the soul in skiing,
Geoff
