Hunter didn't open today.

If I was a regular Hunter homer I'd be just as pissed at the patrol as I would be Vail. IMO it's total BS that patrol is ruining it for their skiers/boarders simply because they're unhappy. Yeah, it sucks, I get it. So to answer that you spit in the face of the customer? Nah, keep it classy Hunter ski patrol.

(this all if only this rumor is true)

So you aren’t in favor of any kind of labor actions, anywhere? I’m not always the biggest fan of Unions (I think they can serve to protect shitty workers within their membership), but I’m not necessarily against the organization they provide for workers to take action when getting screwed over. I don’t think workers should be obligated to accept shit (and getting shittier) wages and benefits just so the customers of the company screwing those workers over aren’t put out, not if the workers have leverage. Collateral damage sucks....but if it leads to improvements going forward that’s good for all, including the customers, no?

I didn't say that.

I said I would be pissed because a group of people got their cheerios peed in and decided to walk out making it impossible for me (the customer) to enjoy what I paid for.

Maybe their options ran out

Day skiers get their money back and pass holders have over 30 other options

Oh, I know they'll be made whole. I just think to walk out because one's panties are in a bunch is chicken shit type stuff.
I'd also like to know when the patrollers knew these fringe benefits were being pulled from them.

It's hardly a job action when volunteers quit because they no longer treated well. Why would you show up- in a pandemic- when you are no longer getting the benefits that had been promised n the past?

IME paid patrollers are no different than volunteers. Most of them in the East support themselves with "real jobs." What's wrong with walking away from a hobby job when the conditions have changed for the worse?

Vail is the only culprit here. You can't treat people poorly and expect them to bail you out when things go sideways.

mm

Thats not what happened...COVID-19 and testing is complicated. Corporations that have to test for COVID-19 have to follow strict guidelines. You need to check in every day and answer questions - If you get tested you need to quarantine for 4 days after the test. If 2 of say 8 people that work together have been in contact and get tested - they are our for 4 days. And come back to work assuming you have no symptoms.. But if you really need 8 your fucked...

Are the volunteers upset with the new Vail stuff - sure... Would they turn their back on their job... No.. Not the patrollers I know.
