Hunter didn't open today.

I’ve never met a patroller who was chicken shit

I guess if the new policies were announced before the season started that would have been the time to walk away but they certainly have the right, whether they’re pro or volunteer. If Vail changed their benefits mid season, that’s just atrocious. I wonder what the real story is.

Thats not what happened...COVID-19 and testing is complicated. Corporations that have to test for COVID-19 have to follow strict guidelines. You need to check in every day and answer questions - If you get tested you need to quarantine for 4 days after the test. If 2 of say 8 people that work together have been in contact and get tested - they are our for 4 days. And come back to work assuming you have no symptoms.. But if you really need 8 your fucked...

Are the volunteers upset with the new Vail stuff - sure... Would they turn their back on their job... No.. Not the patrollers I know.

Thank you for clearing that up D

Like you all the patrollers I know would stay

I didn't say that.

I said I would be pissed because a group of people got their cheerios peed in and decided to walk out making it impossible for me (the customer) to enjoy what I paid for.
Well, it was a question. Agreed, the customers affected had a right to be pissed. But at whom? You seemed to imply they should be pissed at the patrollers who walked out (saying it was not classy), as opposed to being pissed at Vail. Maybe I got that wrong?

In any event, if this was all related to testing requirements and such and not some kind of job action it’s a moot point.

Pretty sure they knew before the season. Some of my friends on patrol have retired and have lifetime passes now.. Others(volunteers) took the season off due to COVID-19. But there's still a lot of volunteers - the next generation(Patrollers kids) is up and working.. :)

This has been made was more bigger than it is. We're lucky to even have areas open right now - it's mutha f'ing tricky time to run a ski area and keep it running. People are figuring this out in real time.

I think this too.

I still feel another "pause" heading our way. I also still hope I'm wrong.

I told Hunter they'd be lucky to stay open for a month after the BS I saw in the lift lines...
Since then firmed up the mask thing in the lines. I've even seen employees riding the chairs down and asking people to mask up on the chairs coming up.

Sounds to me that this was less a deliberate action by patrollers to disrupt things than it was too few patrollers to take up the slack when some were ruled out of working. Maybe the combination of less benefits and COVID risk is causing a lot of them to quit or at least stick to a minimum schedule. That's on Vail.
