Gore Mountain Conditions

Sad to see because Gore was starting to get some mainstream recognition.
I remember a circa ‘98 article about Gore from the now defunct Skiing Magazine titled something to the effect of “Sleepy State Run Resort Wakes Up”. Probably an advertorial for the lead up to the gondola opening in 1999, but it was nonetheless a major placement for them. I remember thinking that they were finally getting some well deserved recognition, and if only management was prepared to build on the momentum of this expansion, it could take the hill to new heights. There have been some real bright spots since then, but of course struggles have continued.

I’m going to make a bold prediction that I’ve been considering for a while: the new Hudson chair will not carry a single paying customer this season, because, whether due to mismanagement , lack of snowmakers and/or lack of water, Gore will never get snow made on all the trails required to do it.
I think it will open eventually. Remember, it's still early January. I don't think it opens by MLK Weekend though.

Has it ever opened before MLK? I bet it opens before Steilhang and Rumor this year. Maybe even before Uncas. If you spend $30 million you gotta move it up the priority list.

That will never happen. Gore is just too hard to get around for anyone who hasn't skied there dozens of times, or who doesn't have elite skating skills. Everything they've added has only made it harder to get around. Does anyone want to do Ruby or Pipeline or Cedars or Eagles Nest with little kids? I like all that stuff because I need the exercise, but I don't think that's what most skiers want to sign up for.

My skating skills are hardly elite, so I guess it's the dozens of times skiing.

Skating is fun in free heels. It's one of the reasons tele skiers dig Gore.

According to the trail report, the high peaks chair is running by the only trail to get there is wood in. It does provide an alternate path to the summit, but nothing else.

Cranked some serious gravel today. It's everywhere!

Snow guns were actually going strong (😯) on upper Echo & Sagamore along with Hullabaloo and Cloud just about the North Chair Ramp.
No guns on the gravel fields on Chatiemac or (more importantly) Sunway?
