Gore Mountain Conditions

I have a Snowmaking question. I ski the lower mountain, never anything above the Gondola. Most of the area I ski is covered by what I see as permanent snow guns. I will twice a week now that the vacation week has passed. Being retired certainly has its advantages. I read the discussions here and follow the Snow Report re Snowmaking. My Quesion: Does snowmaking happen on a regular basis on the lower mountain trails with the permanent guns but NOT get included in the Snow Report? I do not often see my trails listed but there is snow week to week. Today I skied Lower Sunway and it sure felt like made snow. Do they maybe run the permanent guns just enough to aid in the grooming? Despite some gusts I had a fine day today. I quit at noon but the snow had held up well. A few spots that felt like metal roofing but they visible and not a problem.

This year, the weather was there if you wanted to make something happen. Instead, Gore is actually behind where they were this time last year. Everyone else is way ahead.
Last winter Ashley the Luger brought Belle’s snowmaking guru to WF to debug ❄️ .
Maybe he can also do a stint at Gore if it’d help.

Start posting this stuff on the Gore FB page, which usually reads like a rousing chorus of Kumbaya. When the paying customers get restless management needs to know. Last year the squeaky wheel at Whiteface got greased.
The problem is you may get blocked if you try. People do need to start emailing management and complaining though. There is simply no way that with the consistent cold weather and their abundant water supply, that they should be behind where they were last year.

They reported snowmaking on Sunway, but not Lower Sunway. Likely just a reporting error. They don't typically do quick touch up jobs on any trail. If they resurface a trail, then they cover the whole thing. Or they don't make snow there at all.

Some ski areas will quickly move between trails when making snow. When I used to ski at Mountain Creek, they would often do quick rounds of resurfacing in the overnight hours (which is shorter because they have night skiing), and then switch to trails they were expanding to during operating hours. They have higher skier density, shorter snowmaking windows, more thaw/freeze cycles, and a lot less acreage to cover. So every single trail there needs to be, and is resurfaced regularly, and their snowmaking system is designed for this.

The further north you go, you will notice that a majority of trails will only see snowmaking once in a given season. Only the major byways see any resurfacing, and even that's only once or twice after the initial round of snowmaking trail is opened. The snowmaking systems at more northern resorts are not designed for quick transitions between trails, because they don't need to be.

I skied WF yesterday and will be at Gore tomorrow. WF has longer runs, that's it. They definitely have more terrain open but to me it's all the same. We need bumps and trees before anything changes.

Conditions are variable, some bare spots, a bit of ice, but overall edgeable "loose granular". Pine Knot has ungroomed whales at the top and then groomed lower down. Topridge was excellent. Tried to get on the Straight Brook twice and was still closed at 9:05 am, so gave up and went elsewhere. Tahawus was excellent, Sleeping Bear with some thin cover in spots. Very large bare spot at the Saddle. Wild Air with good coverage the first half, some ice patches on lower half. Quicksilver very good. Lot G was mostly full when I left at noon.
