Gore Mountain Conditions

OK so on today...I rode up with a lot of regulars that were bitching and one "Shaman" said what about proactive vs. reactive...The special part of my(our) seriously challenged mountain...We were active. By 10am you could get to our summit...That other mountain in our family to the north did not!

Of those three, although I would never go there unless I was given a pass, is Stratton. I am guessing south and east of here (Saratoga) is going to get more snow Friday into Saturday. I will probably get Gored this weekend. The winds should die down for Friday if that is an option.
I have both ORDA and IKON so that's why those are on my list. Stratton was great last weekend but they didn't re get any snow this week. I bet it's a zoo this weekend. Sugarbush got over a foot but...how much is actually left on the mountain...

Anyone out there today? Have tomorrow off ... and might just stick to the CNY bumps since we got some snow.
Looks like I'll be giving Song or Lab a shot tomorrow. Less wind. Supposed to get some snow. Lot less driving.
Snow band came thru most of the day today.
Both should have nice snow.
Gonna try to make it to Song as it’s a bit closer. I wish Chopsticks would open soon & Ptarmy too.

With the current ownership who has a monopoly on skiing in CNY (minus Greek) I wouldn't hold my breath. They have no incentive to do so. I hate giving him my money though I'll do it today to ski vs sit at home, but that's about the only time I'll do it.

Snow report says Burnt Ridge lift opens today, only Echo so far of the main trails there. Is that because youth racing starting soon?

Showcase, Hullabaloo, Lower Darby also now open.

Do we think there’s any chance Backwoods could open tomorrow? I think I’m going to gore after my last three ski days were at WF

I highly doubt Backwoods will be open tomorrow. Eagle's nest heading back to the Burnt Ridge Quad was solid brown with no snowmaking on it.

I'm very disappointed in Gore this year. Some of the open trails today were awful, with huge bare spots in between sheets of ice. Part of Sunway under the gondola was dangerous. I saw several skiers really struggling to stay upright. Twister was pretty rough as well. I know that there has been wind, but with the low temperatures for the last week, there should have been a lot more snow on the mountain. Showcase was closed for several days supposedly due to heavy snowmaking. It opened today with only 1/2 width, very low snow depth and rough conditions. It's going to be a mess tomorrow unless they can push some snow over all of the bare areas on the front side.

On the bright side, Tahawus and Sleeping Bear were ok, as was Hawkeye, Chatimac and Cloud/Headwaters. Echo was good too but getting across Cedars was rough due to snowmaking (I guess that's where all the snowmaking is going). Lower Echo to Cedars was closed, so you have to trek the entire length of Cedars to get there. I'm guessing Echo will be closed for racing tomorrow anyway, as it never seems to be available to the public on weekends.

Rando question as there seem to be a fair bit of albany-saratoga area folks who ski Gore. I am toying with the idea of skiing Belle one day next week and then skiing whiteface the next - i am flexible weekday wise.

I was thinking of just sleeping in the Riv in a lot up there (

so, I think the gore skiers need to find out what the whiteface skiers did to get attention last year, and do that. Maybe it will help for next season.

This Gore skier drove past Gore last weekend to go to WF on Saturday and will skip Gore this Saturday too. Instead of driving 7 minutes to Gore, we will drive two hours to Killington. This is what it has come to. The comments and the pictures on the Gore FB page tell me all I need to know. Good luck if you are skiing Gore tomorrow. I honestly hope it is great.
