Your Greatest Day, Snow Edition

My best day was in 1998 at Whitefish. I at the top of a steep narrow chute wondering whether I could do it when the cornice I was standing on collapsed. I nailed it and all the untracked below it. it might have been the only time I felt I skied as well as I wanted to.
A 50+ year ski career comes down to 15 or 30 seconds.

The flow state or white room changes a normal recreational activity into a life long pursuit. It’s so addicting!

Indoor skiing is not really my thing... Like being in a big refrigerator.
Especially when you can't have a beer or 2 between runs because it's a religious country.
lol big snow is so short the lift is barely one 12 oz can long...

Exactly.. Also we rode the Dubai thing with back country equipment.. My split deck is close to a 170 so it's a cruiser. People were shocked when they saw me carrying it. I think the biggest board to rent there was like a 138 and not spilt... haha
Never felt more overkill in my life..

My second best is probably my McCauley Birthday... again, deep light snow, no competition, all day long...

(Like I said I have a recency bias, maybe because I am senile.)

hard to remember best day ever. there has been plenty of them over the past 40 years. used to ski sugarbush/mad river a bunch before cell phones so all i have are mental photos from those days. these phots are from march 14, 2018. as i recall there were back to back storms that week. i caught 2 days at magic. one better then the other.

Went to ski Gore with a friend after the March ’93 “storm of the century” once the roads were decent. I remember it warmed up with sunshine and there were girls skiing in bikinis. I broke a buckle on a boot on a bump and my friend who does excellent maintenance work rigged something to repair it so I wouldn’t miss the remainder of the day. Many feet of fresh snow on top of what was still there from the winter.

I recall my epic day...Snowbasin, UT ..two years ago.

Puking snow, skiing with my two older boys and a vodka breathed local we just met on the gondi.
Asked the dude where the "goods" were. He said follow me....

Can't tell you where we were..I lost the rope enroute to where we were headed and had to wait for the next skiier wearing something dark to get back on track. When I met up with the other three, the local dude said they were gonna head for some gnarly chute but I could drop to the right and we'd all meet up below. I went first....5 seconds in, the sno left my skis.
I was seriously airborned for the longest in my 47 year ski career...landed it, made one turn and stopped.

When the others came back upon me my two sons said, "holy sh_t...we could see your black helmet drop straight down and we were waiting to hear the loudest f bomb you ever blasted out. I was laughing, stoked, and happy to be alive. Nothing has topped this since or even come close.

Oh man, I skied Plattekill after that storm. That was my last season out east and I feel fortunate that it’s how I remember the skiing out there.
