Your Greatest Day, Snow Edition

Too many good days to count. This post was one of them. The old guys took over Prospect.

My personal best at the Lake Placid Loppet, longer ago than I care to admit. It was a Start Green day, wicked cold. After finishing, I staggered into the wax room to change into dry clothes. I fumbled one ski boot off and and to rest for a minute. Same thing with the next boot, and the socks. My wife was looking at me like she was gonna call 911.

Then Marc Gilbertson bounced into the room to collect his stuff. He won the race an hour ahead of me, and it was like he'd walked down to the corner for a quart of milk. He later competed in the 1998 Winter Olympics.

It's difficult for me to narrow it down to just one as there are so many. However, there are a few that stick out in my mind.

1. My first time down Hells Brook
2. First time down the Headwall @ Tuck's --- I was scared, never had I seen or skied anything that steep
3. And more recently. The first time I skied POW on my Patron's, I smiled ear to ear the entire time.

Best day of riding was in Kashmir India..
Giant Himalayan ridge - sunny day - fresh pow - awesome hashish - and a great crew of my Hunter friends

My fav day was a spring day at hunter. The snow / corn was pure velvet and the temp was perfect with a cobalt sky

My best day was in 1998 at Whitefish. I at the top of a steep narrow chute wondering whether I could do it when the cornice I was standing on collapsed. I nailed it and all the untracked below it. it might have been the only time I felt I skied as well as I wanted to.
A 50+ year ski career comes down to 15 or 30 seconds.

That is really pretty cool on several levels.

IMO skiing is all about creating those indelible memories.

It's why I write. It helps me remember.
