Your Greatest Day, Snow Edition

Oh man, I skied Plattekill after that storm. That was my last season out east and I feel fortunate that it’s how I remember the skiing out there.

Plattekill was in the wheelhouse of that storm:

Unreal, snow from the Gulf of Mexico to the Bay of Fundy.

They are all great , just SOME better than Others ? .

My absolute favorite days are Annual Family Ski posse Holidays at Thanksgiving some years and always at Christmas . The entire clan gathers from afar at our home for the week at Christmas and several days at Thanks giving . Me and my son, SIL ,all the grandsons and my BIL hit Titus.

Some years we'd do it again at President's weekend at my daughters home in Massachusetts and all hit Wachusett and would be joined by the Queen of the Hop and my daughter and granddaughters ........great times making memories .

My Living Room bookcases around the fireplace are full of framed photos of all these adventures. They bring a smile to my face EVERY day

To be honest I don’t remember specific storms from that year. I do remember that there was a darn good amount of snow in the ground all winter in Jersey. Enough that I started to make my first snow pack observations, watching how old layers reacted to new snow and such.

I remember huge snow banks that March driving up the final hill to Plattekill, maybe 5 feet tall.

I remember skiing until my legs felt like they might fall off, lapping the bumps on Blockbuster and feeling the burn on the old t bar. I remember the warm sun and cold snow while skiing untouched tree lines. It was awesome.

Remember skiing Snow Ridge years ago just after an epic104 inch dump in 4 days .

It was Nipple Deep , i was like a demented sloth in that with my Atomic SX 10 skis designed for hardpack ?? they just SUNK . It was exhausting

Was on an XC trip to New Hampshire with a half dozen other people. We went to a different XC area each day. The best day was a trip to Jackson, NH (which is a village with 200km of trails in and around the village). Snow was perfect, grooming was perfect. We decided to take trails that ended up at Black Mountain (a local downhill ski hill) and have lunch there. We were all brown bagging it, so we ate in the crowded general purpose lodge, had a bit of hot soup from the cheap eats. When we were done we headed back and found that there was a gentle incline the we never noticed so it was downhill all the way back. With the perfect snow, each turn made me feel like an expert Olympic skier! Seems like it was 2.5 hours to get there and 20 minutes to get back to the Jackson lodge.
