Windham Conditions

Note that East Peak is the same model as the Belleayre Superchief. They were built the same year in 2006. Both are terrible lifts and often remain closed for many hours if not days due to mechanical issues.

Incredible day at Windham on Tuesday 3/14/23! Rode the Gentemstick 144 Rocket Fish most of the day and it was a great choice. Snowing hard all day with waist deep drifts and pockets. 100% open with lots of snow in the woods on both peaks. This is coming down Wedel mid-morning. Snow was mostly light (as in not wet or heavy) and rode fast all day ☃️

Hmmmmmm. Can't say I'm excited by this press release.

“I think it's fair to say it'll be a dramatic difference in our food and beverage,” said Seamans. “We're really excited about that. I think people will notice those changes immediately this coming season.”

I read the article but still need to listen to the WRIP radio interview. As a current season pass holder and someone who has been skiing and then riding Windham since 1984, all I can say is that without continued trail development and terrain expansion, this is disappointing. It's really hard to get excited about more townhouses and land development, not to mention food and beverage improvements especially since I don't even stop for lunch. Infrastructure improvement is certainly welcome, but there's no way Windham can sustain all this peripheral expansion and development without increasing the amount of trails and skiable terrain. Hopefully that remains part of the plan. If not, it looks like Plattekill Mountain will be getting more of my money in the future.

As an afterthought, I'll add that my impression of Seamans up to this point was of a GM who actually skis and understands what real skiers care about. Pretty sure I've even seen him out solo a few times over on the west peak diamond trails. This news alongside this past season's reduced snowmaking efforts (they could have done a lot more even with the weather; Belleayre and Plattekill certainly did) has raised some doubts, however.

Wow.

Seamans up to this point was of a GM who actually skis

I skied with him he's a good skier.

I agree it seems like skiing will be one of many priorities, base on this release.

I read that piece. This caught my eye:

Windham is competing with Hunter for overnighters, Belleayre for families, Plattekill for expert skiers. But Windham doesn’t seem to see it that way.

I agree they are not really competing with other three. They have a unique value proposition.

In some ways the same is true of Plattekill, but it's not as dramatic. I hear people whine about the premium on Plattekill tickets, I don't hear that about Windham. It's so off the charts, it would be like pointing out that a creature from another planet is different.

Those customers are dedicated and I wouldn't be surprised to see continued success at Windham.

What I noted in Stuart's article was that Ikon is probably introducing new people to Windham. In particular, people from NYC who have the means and interest to plan a trip out west to an Ikon resort or two. Windham requires Ikon reservations, so can control the number of Ikon holders on busy days.

In addition to premium season passes, Windham also has a Sun-Fri pass and a college pass. The $1499 premium pass is only good for skiing at Windham and includes summer perks. That pass is $999 for ages 65-74 and $349 for seniors 75+. An adult (18-64) who wants to add Ikon Base would pay $1849. A senior 65+ could get Ikon Base plus unlimited Windham skiing for $1299. (Ikon Base alone is $1149, no senior pricing.) For people on the ball who are good planners, there is a Transferable Pass for $2500 available in limited numbers. The Transferable pass can be used by anyone for a given day.

Unlimited bike passes and golf passes can be added to the premium ski passes.

The only time I've skied at Windham was during a northeast ski safari based on Indy when I was on my way to Plattekill. Since Windham was on Ikon, stopping by for a few hours midweek was worth the effort. The folks there reminded me of people at Waterville Valley. In the sense that most seemed to know Windham well and probably didn't ski elsewhere within driving distance of their house. I was reasonably impressed in the context of my equally limited experience checking out Hunter and Belleayre during other northeast ski safaris. Plattekill is in a class by itself.
