Windham Conditions

Windham rode great on Wednesday. Firm and fast early, with borderline frozen sections that you could just set an edge into. Plenty of soft snow sections, as well. The snow softened up nicely but never became grippy aside from a few slush puddles in transition areas like the East Peak lift line. Most of the mountain was groomed with numerous sections left untouched. Those ungroomed sections were mostly soft enough with leftover natural snow on the main peak, while the ungroomed sections on East Peak remained firm and technically challenging. I was still finding sections of unridden corduroy up to 12:30pm when I left. Perfect for carving deep trenches. There were a few bare spots and ice sections but overall the coverage was impressive. Started out on the K2 156 Niseko Pkeasures but it was little too stiff for the early firmness. Switched to the K2 154 Instrument at 10:00am and the slightly softer flex really helped with the variable conditions and terrain. Both boards properly tuned and waxed. Standout trails for me were Upper Wolverine and Why Not. I was testing a new GoPro Max 360 my wife gave me, so here’s a still I pulled from the video. If I figure out the editing, I’ll post a clip that shows how fun it was. Hopefully the rain holds off and we make it to April.

I can repost this in the Windham thread if more appropriate. View attachment 14099View attachment 14100

It was gorgeous at Windham today. No crowds, soft snow, good music, plenty of open fun blue/black runs to explore! Great mellow vibe there today. The only bumps I found were on The Wall. It’s getting thin out there. They may be done for the season after tomorrow’s rain. Today started out around 60F and it was 70F by 3pm.

Looks good. Did you traverse over to Wheelchair or Wedel? Hopefully the cold weather that comes in next week helps. They did a great job last season moving snow around and grooming to stay open until April.

Yes, I did ski wheelchair. Coverage at the top was dicey if I remember correctly. Ice, bare spots, and a big boulder. It was probably the toughest trail to find a line down yesterday. The groomers will have a lot of work to patch up the bare spots and ponds that are forming in the run outs in the lift area on the east side. The top at the east side is also very very thin. I hope they are up to the task!

Here’s a short video from last Wednesday. Conditions were great, lots of soft snow with firm and fast corduroy. This is up on Why Not on East Peak. It’s really too bad there’s been so much rain since then, with more in the forecast. Headed back up Thursday for the weekend.

Hmmmmm video shows on my phone but not an iPad. Is it visible to you?
