Total Solar Eclipse coming to NY: April 8, 2024

My camera has a video screen. So save it for the moment, point and shoot once and be done with it.

Like I said, I don't think ORDA will care about my opinion, but did email someone. Be interesting to see if I get a response.

I would think that a lack of sunlight and neither mountain equipped with lighted trails would be a huge liability problem to run the gondola. You know some idiot is going take off down a trail on skis or hike somewhere they are not supposed to. People are dumb.

Maybe don't allow people to take skis up after a 2pm? I can see how that would be problematic.

If this map is accurate North Creek and Gore are out of the zone, but our place is barely inside of it.
What about the top of Gore? It’s a lot closer to the edge of totality than the base.
People who think a 99% eclipse will get you 99% of the experience will be susceptible to Gore's promotion if they are still hosting an event.
Here’s a shot of today’s promo.

Could be just another ya gotta got to know...

It’s dark for a max of <4 minutes in the middle of the path of totality for NYS.
Folks wait in lift lines much longer to ski.
Sugarloaf’s gonna shut their lifts temporarily at 3:10.
Totality there is after NYS.

Sugarloaf i is doing the right thing, but they can't charge another $50 for gondola access from passholders who thought they already bout unlimited access.
Gore's deal is just a joke. They shouldn't bother. Whiteface should do what Sugarloaf is doing, or allow foot traffic on the gondola but run the other lifts until 4 or 5 for skiers. This is probably the best chance ever for millions of people to see a total eclipse, and ORDA (and others) are unnecessarily limiting it.

i'm gonna get absolutely roasted for this ....but is this eclipse a big deal ??
I am really surprised by all the hype and planning around it.
ok - admittedly, I am lame and hate crowds.
I am shocked by the potential amount of people that could flock up north.
I would have to think that Monday night going south on the Northway is going to be a mess.

That's why I'm going back Tuesday.
I think that a lot of people are going to drive north for the day. Watch the eclipse for 3 or less minutes. Then get in their car and drive home. The southbound thruway will be a mess after the eclipse.

Where are you going to watch it?
