Total Solar Eclipse coming to NY: April 8, 2024

As I stated earlier, this is a decision that must be made in the last 48 hours given the overall poor climatology. Therefore committing to the “Jay Cloud” 4+ months in advance is a deal breaker. OTOH it would be great spot if weather is good and $40 is a cheap speculation as long as you don’t let the $40 sway your decision if the forecast is not good.

Put Yourself in the Path of Totality
Eclipse Tram Tickets • On Sale Tomorrow 12/14

Jay Peak is directly in the path of totality during the solar eclipse of 2024. Closer than any major ski area in the United States, in fact. And Northern Vermont is the best spot on the East Coast north of Florida to land in that path. Sounds like a reason to party at Jay Peak, not that you ever really need a reason.

Tram tickets for Whiteout - Total Solar Eclipse on April 8th, 2024, are going on sale, Tomorrow, Thursday December 14th around 11a. Due to the way our website is set up these tickets could go live anytime between 11a-12p, so keep on refreshing that page. If you'd like to try to get a ride up, set a reminder for 11a tomorrow (12/14/23).

The Tram will begin operations for the day at 2p to bring folks to the summit. Limit of 120 people, $40pp. No ski or snowboard gear will be permitted on the viewing Trams. Everyone must return to the base by Tram. A Season Pass does not get you on the tram for the eclipse, only this ticket.

There will be a link to purchase on our homepage.

It’s getting closer, about 3 months to go.

Stream trout, spring salmon & brown trout on the Big O will be on in The UpState when the eclipse goes by that afternoon. Fishing's usually best at dawn and dusk. I wonder how the fish will respond to the change in light levels around here that day. Could be super duper. Maybe the ESF school folks will do a study hopefully. They put telemetric tags in some of em. I’d volunteer.
Article about mammals, birds, insects and reptiles...
Whatbout fish?

I'll be in Tobago, where the last thing I want is any part of the sun being blocked. Fortunately that won't be a problem this year.

If this map is accurate North Creek and Gore are out of the zone, but our place is barely inside of it.

Whiteface looks like the ticket. McCauley or Titus too, if they are open, which is kind of a longshot.

My wife tells me we are spending the night at our friends parents house in Tupper Lake. Might be ground zero.

Talked to a friend today who grew up near Piseco.
We talked bout fishin somewhere and sample/observe the biosystem that day.
The surface of the earth is 3/4ths H2O.
