The Importance (and Fun!) of a Quiver

I just blame it all on living in Jersey. Unless you're willing to go to Mountain Creek or eastern PA mountains frequently it's near impossible to get more than 40 quality days on snow in a season living in this state.
Agreed. Living in NJ, and the number of days I get out seems to be going down rather than up. Even though I'm semi retired.

Retirement: Looking forward to living in the Tri Lakes area. Mount van Ho one day; Dewey Mt the next, and the VIC after that.

I was busting Harv's chops offline about his comment that a pair of 96s are his daily drivers, including nasty hardpack. I know that there are pro-level skiers like MattChuck or MadPat who could literally make proficient turns on 2x4s, but for a hacker like me, it's all about the right tool for the conditions -- something in the 80s when there's no fresh snow, 98s and wider for proper powder. And that goes for out west as well as back east.
For me it's all about flex and grind. A klister ski ain't gonna cut it when it's 5 above zero.

OK so I caved, I'm buying the extra skis three years early.

I spoke to Vin this morning. He's never made a ski with metal, no customer has ever asked for it. He has thought about it a lot, and is excited. That's good enough for me.

Also very cool, he is already nearly sold out for this building season.

Latest addition. I don’t feel the need to buy brand new custom, bespoke skis for myself every other year but hopefully I’ll get some deep powder days in next year so I can justify my (small) investment. Thanks TJ.

The correct number of skis to own is N + 1, where N is the number of skis you already have. Can also be applied to guitars, bikes etc.

Don't forget the corollary to N + 1: "This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner." (from The Rules)
