The Importance (and Fun!) of a Quiver

The friend I ski with most has two pair of the same exact K2 skis. One for rocky conditions and one for when there’s good snow. He’s an excellent skier.
my long lost brother? Same here....I have 2 pairs of the same skis....phasing 1 pair out, breaking the new pair in....have actually had the "new" ones mounted and in storage for about 3 years waiting for the old ones to start transitioning out. Not a good use of capital, I know.....

That was always my attitude too until a few years ago. I was a late adopter of the Salomon XScreams but once I found them I more or less skied nothing else for 15 years. When I got my Blizzards they were the first ski I ever had with any rocker. I do view them as a sort of do-anything ski but somewhere along the way I fell back in love with my old K2 812s so I’ve been pulling them out a few times a year. I bought these new ones at a garage sale with a view to replacing the 812s but there are subtle differences between them so it looks like the quiver is growing. The XScreams still get waxed so I have rock skis when I need them. Also, I discovered that my Blizzards don’t have enough float for really deep snow so I guess I’ll be in the market for powder skis.
I got a size 9 shoe. Have a set or billy goats with dukes mounted to them that I would sell for cheap. They have a center mount which I don't like. I think they are like 116 under foot.

Oh my god- going from 78 all the way to 116 seems radical but I am a size 9 shoe (which is average for an adult male BTW) How much?

I know that there are pro-level skiers like MattChuck or MadPat who could literally make proficient turns on 2x4s, but for a hacker like me, it's all about the right tool for the conditions -- something in the 80s when there's no fresh snow, 98s and wider for proper powder.
Hardpack isn’t a problem. Ice is and bumpy ice is worse. There’s all kinds of conditions. Makes it more interesting. Fine conditions are always better for some reason.

The reason I can make decent turns in terrible snow conditions is that I spend a lot of time skiing terrible snow conditions. I ski icy bumps deliberately because I am a weird masochist who wants to figure out how to ski everything in every possible condition.

that being said, I like a good quiver, too. Current resort skis are 88 & 100 underfoot and I mostly use the 88.

The family quiver. Seems about right for 3 skiers. It’s a little repetitive sure. You can see why I need powder skis.

200. Ten days on then tops. The binding have many days on them. They are dukes though they should last forever

You know what? I just read some reviews and I’m 90% in for sure. Are you at WF this weekend? I was thinking about coming up Saturday anyway. You can PM or text me if you prefer
