Skiing's Future

^^That's a case where the change required was simple, in that it didn't require a change in the way people lived. Technology came up with a solution, and it didn't cost the end user much at all..
Don’t you think that we can solve other problems in the same way? Cash prizes should be offered for better battery solutions, cheap renewable energy innovations, carbon capture technology, etc.

Seems like a better use of tax dollars than subsidies for oil companies, imo.

Why can't both exist? I guess that's my biggest hang-up with all of this. I'm all for moving forward, but that doesn't mean, to me, we totally disregard what has gotten us to where we are now.
But yes. I think there should be incentive to make renewable energy as affordable, or even more affordable than what we have now.

That’s where I’m at. Also, we shouldn’t fool ourselves into thinking the only thing stopping us from going green is a bunch of greedy old business men. There is a lot more to it.

The fact of the matter is the climate we have now is the direct result of all varieties of life living on this planet for millions of years, give or take some fluctuations from volcanic activity and random cataclysmic events.

I think we can use all the renewables we want but that won’t fix the problems that arise from natural ecosystem loss. No one likes to mention these renewables also come with the cost of destroying the natural world to harvest raw materials. Integrating and harnessing the services of immense amounts of biodiversity will be the key to stabilizing the climate in my opinion. Can we artificially replicate the interconnected system of plants, microbes, and animals that is so heavily tied to the atmosphere? I’ll be interested to find out while looking down from above or up from below.

Aren't you talking about grants? And then the IPO if they get it right and go public? It's happening.

I think MC was proposing something like the X Prize. An X Prize for a practical functioning fusion reactor would be a good idea
