Ski Bowl 3.0 at Gore

Questions:

Is there a limit on J1 visas? Sounds like yes. Why? What are the reasons that there is a limit?

Do J1 visa people take the jobs because it's much better than their options at home?

What was gained by ducking the rope on Echo?

I think some visas limits were reduced for political reasons and later because COVID. I’ve known several people who came on different visas. Some of them got advanced degrees and stayed for good jobs. I think the South American kids who worked at the ski resort came to learn English and mostly went home at the end of the season. The landscaping contractor at our condo told me the Mexicans sent money to their families and all returned home each year. Most of the au pairs I knew stayed past their visas.
Everyone who comes here has their own reasons and they’re all different.

That's not true. You should read the UMP. The bottom of Echo after Gully would be significantly widened, allowing one to return to the base even while a race is in progress.

A connection from Twister is actually in the UMP, which you'd know if you read it. I think they would need a Killington style tunnel to cross under Echo. That is doable, but I'm not sure if it's a priority.

The constant stops and slows are precisely what makes it unpleasant. I hate that lift so much.

If it's a hard packed groomer day, and then Wood In is fine. If it's a powder day, spring day, or you're on a snowboard, then it sucks.
Report says gondola, most unreliable lift on the mountain, down for maintenance (good day for it, almost no one there in the rain), but North Quad keeps chugging along, pausing only to load those pesky little kids.

Interesting to see the discussion here re: North Quad and kids, that was not particularly my observation of who was skiing there on our visit though we made sure to bring our daughter (12yo and advanced beginner in terms of technique) over to Tawahus, and she really liked it. We did definitely experience the stop/start thing with lift operation on both days we were there.

IIRC the GM told Storm Skiing podcast there's not much priority given to replacing that lift, which is reasonable given it's a small pod and North Star/Powder Pass seem to be frequently closed. Is it feasible to retrofit a chair like that with a carpet loader? Wondering if that would be a relatively low-cost way to keep it running closer to max speed.
