Ski Bowl 3.0 at Gore

Echo is closed more than it is open. It sucks because you can't get to Burnt Ridge without skating, and you can't get out without riding the horrible North Quad that can't go a minute without stopping.

There are plans for another trail from Burnt Ridge to the main base, though it would take away some if not all of Cirque Glades.

While I believe this connection is worth losing Cirque Glades, Gore needs another massive increase in snowmaking capacity before they add another acre of snowmaking footprint.
A connection through Cirque wouldn't help anything. It would still be unavailable when Echo is closed. The real issue with Burnt Ridge is that it's hard to get to even when Echo is open. It would take Hunter Mountain amounts of excavation to make it easy to get to the BRQ from Twister, and they would still have to move NYSEF to Showcase or Sagamore. None of that's gonna happen.
It's always easy enough to get back from Burnt Ridge. Hedges or Tahawus glade to the North quad. That lift stops often because that's the best place to take 8 year olds at Gore. Otherwise it's about as fast as any other fixed grip. Also I don't get the hate on Wood In. That's always the easiest route to the High Peaks quad, and maybe even the easiest route to Straightbrook and Topridge as well.
Personally, I like the idea of having nordic at the bowl. It takes so much less manmade snow to run that sport. Kids and racing!
Do you really think XC is sustainable as a HS sport on manmade snow? Are kids from Albany gonna train at the Ski Bowl? Saratoga County kids are already training there. Are there enough athletes outside Lake Placid in the Daks to justify it? AFAIK the Ski Bowl connection for alpine opened February 10 this year, and then only 3 days a week plus Presidents Week, so maybe 22 days if it opens this weekend. But sure, spend $30 million there because zipline.

I have no idea. All I said was I like the idea.

I like the idea of tree skiing in NY too. Is that sustainable?

Is Gore sustainable? Is social security sustainable?* Two more ideas I like.

Let's start with a definition of sustainable. How do you define it?

A connection trhroough Cirque wouldn't help anything. It would still be unavainbale when Echo is closed.
That's not true. You should read the UMP. The bottom of Echo after Gully would be significantly widened, allowing one to return to the base even while a race is in progress.

The real issue with Burnt Ridge is that it's hard to get to even when Echo is open. It would take Hunter Mountain amounts of excavation to make it easy to get to the BRQ from Twister, and they would still have to move NYSEF to Showcase or Sagamore. That's not gonna happen.
A connection from Twister is actually in the UMP, which you'd know if you read it. I think they would need a Killington style tunnel to cross under Echo. That is doable, but I'm not sure if it's a priority.

It's always easy enough to get beck from Burnt Ridge. Hedges or Tahawus glade to the North quad. That lift stops often because that's the best place to take 8 year olds at Gore.
The constant stops and slows are precisely what makes it unpleasant. I hate that lift so much.

Also I don't get the hate on Wood In. That's the always easiest route to the High Peaks quad, and maybe even the easiest route to Straightbrook and Topridge as well.
If it's a hard packed groomer day, and then Wood In is fine. If it's a powder day, spring day, or you're on a snowboard, then it sucks.

The social thing was retorical. Anyone who answers is banned.

Still want Milo to define sustainable. My guess is it has something to do with producing as much as you consume.

G/wf/belle are getting 110 mil. I dont see how supporting nordic kid racing is such a crime. Its as legit as any lift.

Im sorry. I was just stirring the pot. I lost track of what you guys are talking about. More Nordic at Gore? Yes

I’m always impressed by the XC people at the bowl - I always see a few on every day I park there and they are working harder than me so why not have a spot that is kept up for them.

I like the bowl exactly how it is (well I liked the skating rink they used to have but my family might have been the only people who ever used it) but if they are going to put in this lodge and coaster it must be all about summer. I have never seen how the bowl can truly be tied in to the rest of the mountain in ski season without the chair to the main base area which is in the UMP allowing people to download when the connecting routes aren’t open. Otherwise it’s a great place to park and I love the trails for an average of (4?) weekends a year. Or do we think that with Backwoods (which has a boatload of snowmaking) they will be able to connect it all up for more weeks per year going forward. This year is shaping up to be connected longer than most - is that a coincidence or will they be able to make it a priority and keep it connected more consistently from mid Jan to April?

I love Gore so much when it’s all connected - there is nothing like it in the East - but some years it’s just sad how short the connection lasts.
