Ski Bowl 3.0 at Gore

Having to use Cedars, Pipeline, or Hedges to North Quad going the other way is a dictionary definition of ‘first world problem’.

No one swears louder than me when I’m headed back to the bowl at 245 and Twisters Little Sister is still closed and I have to bomb at the bottom to Cedars, shaking my fist at the NYSEF cabin as i go by and i continue to swear as i skate cedars.

Then i get to the BR chair, where there is no line, i sit back on a nice high speed chair, and im happy.

And having to use Hedges to North Chair going the other way does not add 40 minutes. Maybe 15 minutes?

Anyway, we are all lucky people. And this year feels like the bowl has been connected for more weeks than most - im glad to see Hudson chair running today even if im stuck downstate.
AFAIK this is the seventh weekend Ski Bowl is connected. Three days a week + Presidents week = 25 days. It doesn’t add much to the alpine experience. Yesterday it was Oak Ridge only. If it were gonna save HS Nordic racing by providing a venue in poor winters then it might make sense to develop it, but I don’t think Nordic will survive the poor winters that are the new normal no matter what they do at Ski Bowl.

Not sure if I agree. Where else can you park 75 yards from the lift at a major ski area? And sometimes when I step out of my car at the bowl I swear I can’t hear anything except the snow falling. A day of skiing is as much of a mental experience as physical for me, and I literally feel like I am stepping into 1975 at the bowl. Spending my first hour there before I join the masses at the Saddle is a unique experience and makes for my best days at Gore. while I understand that all things have to move on I will miss it when they put in a $20M lodge.

Ultimate first world problem: Oscar winning actress and retired doctor collide while participating in an elitist recreational activity at a resort which only admits one percenters and sue each other.

Assuming a speed of 400 fpm, the North Quad is a 9.4 minute ride. Once you add in all the stops, you'll be well over 10 minutes, possibly up to 15. I'd say it adds roughly 20 minutes compared to just skiing down Echo.

People will complain about the $275 lift ticket at Deer Valley, but if you play your cards right and ski with reckless abandon you might hit the jackpot. Gotta be in it to win it, as they say.
