Ski Bowl 3.0 at Gore

No other ski resort has their race trails as the only ones that connect two mountain areas. Imagine if Killington's race trails were Caper and Bittersweet. That's how bad Gore's setup is. There are trails on the UMP that would provide the same connectivity, yet they refuse to prioritize them.

If Gore was tied to revenue produced, then they would've expanding their snowmaking capacity so Burnt Ridge and the Ski Bowl were open more than sporadically. They would've used real estate development to help fund the improvements.

I've never been into racing because I perceive it as boot camp. I would rather pick my own trails and pace. I'm not opposed to it existing, and I know other people who do enjoy it. This is not about whether I think ski racing is a good thing or not. This is about Gore's awful placement of their race trails, and lack of any user-friendly alternative to move between mountain areas, and their refusal to address it for 15 years and counting.
What is your proposed solution?

Easy solution:

1. Cut Cirque Glades into a trail. The glades are only open 5 days a year at most, so no loss here.
2. Cut connector trail from new trail to the bottom of Echo.
3. Widen bottom of Echo so race finish and connector trail can be parallel with each other.
4. Cut connector trail from Twister's Little Sister to new trail, with a Killington-style tunnel under Echo.

No snowmaking as part of this plan?

The use of either trail requires the public to use Pipeline to access Burnt Ridge and the Ski Bowl. If that amount of exercise is too much, you can ski the other 300 acres that are generally open when the use of Echo inhibits access.
The issue isn't getting to BR, it's getting back from it without it being a 40 minute journey on the awfully slow North Chair to nowhere.

I want to dispel the notion that I skied through a "race". It was like 8 leftovers still "practicing" (screwing around) when the trail was supposed to be open 2:45 on a Sunday. I also passed several snowboarders going down as well who clearly did the same thing I did.

Despite the above, I'll admit that ducking the rope was not the right thing to do. I was wrong, I'll reflect on that.

But all of Sno's points are valid, it's a key trail for connectivity around the mountain. If a single NYSEF coach is going to keep it closed to be a private trail for 8 people it will continue to incentivize ducking to get back to the base. Not that it's the right thing to do, which I'm admitting my wrong.

1. Long glades are part of what makes Gore unique. We already had one butchered this year. GFY.
2. See #1.
3. Echo is already 50yards wide and was created by emasculating Twister Glade. See #1.
4. We’re not building you a tunnel. Maybe we could have a helicopter on standby for you.
Gore is what it is. Not your cup of tea? Ski Killington, Stratton, Hunter, ……………….

My son was in a race program for 4 years, they skied all trails in all conditions. They did way more than just train gates. You really missed out.
As far as mowing down glades for connector trails. Once the glade is gone , your never gonna get it back.
As far as flat parts go, I love a good skate, it warms me up!
I don’t usually Duck ropes( Habit goes back to my Elk mt days,Patrol loved to lecture). On the way back from BR, unless Tahawus glade is bare, I take it back to North Quad , whether open or not..
Ski on .
PS I wish my home was closer to Gore Mt !!!

When I was a coach there were usually spectators on the course. Stay out of everyone’s way, don’t distract the racers and no one will bother you. Duck the rope with your high speed posse or gawk at the U14 girls and the coaches will go after you.
OTOH poaching racing or training just to avoid a fixed grip lift at Gore is at least ironic, if not completely foolish.

Some of the best skiers I've skied with are racers. I'm not a racer because I suck at it. That said, I've run my share of gates with race teams and it's incredibly difficult to be good at it. Once I get late, I stay there....lol
All the good ones recover.
