My uncle committed suicide when I was really little. My father, my aunt, and my grandmother would occasionally make references to Uncle George at family gatherings as I was growing up. I didn't learn what actually happened to him until I was 40. Knocked me for a loop, the way it must have affected my dad and my aunt way back when.

So if they want to change the name, I'm OK with it.

Since I spilled my guts above, I'm a give you another one. When I was still working as a personal trainer, a woman comes into the gym one day. I go, "Lorraine [not her real name] how are you feeling?"

She instantly started bawling. One of her adult sons had recently completed suicide, leaving a widow and 2 young kids. This was a woman who came over on a boat from the old country alone, at 15, with $10 in her pocket and no knowledge of English. Raised 3 kids alone after her husband abandoned the family. I spent the next 45 minutes playing crisis intervention therapist.

So she'd been through some shit. This broke her.

All these name changes are nice gestures but actions speak louder than words. If people would be kind, honest and compassionate names wouldn't mean dick.

I had two uncles by marriage that comitted suicide , one a well respected chief of police the other an engineer ,and i had a colleague at the University also who did so .

I GET the reason for the name change as i previously stated . Suicide often does not give clues to families and friends of victims ..Many for years deal with the deep philosophical and introspective questions surrounding the tragedy and how they may have been able to help had they read the teas right. It is not a trifling matter .

This. Being offended or "hurt" is a choice in relation to names of inanimate objects/places/businesses. All of this cancel crap is fucking dumb and super silly.
