Magic Conditions

an 19th 3:30pm Update: West Side will be opening on Saturday! Trails will most likely include Talisman, Sorcerer, Heart of Magician, Black Line, The Wardrobe, Hallows, Red Line, Voodoo . Predicting at least 90% open! This is all natural snow, variable conditions, waterbars for advanced/experts only on the West Side, no intermediate (Blue square) way down! Have fun!

Jan 19th 11AM Update: Patrol has opened Upper Trick un-groomed. Use caution/variable/experts-only. Lower Trick remains closed with snowmaking piles until pushed out.

Jan 19th 10:30am Update: Witch to Goniff Glade now open with extreme caution/experts-only. Witch is highly technical skiing with wind-blown crusty/icy surface with powdery blown-in spots. True experts-only, not for advanced level skiers/riders or below.

6:45am: Good morning skiers and rider! The Red and Green Lift spin at 9am with Terrain Park handle tow from 11am-4pm and beginner conveyor lift available on request. There are 30 trails and glades expected on the East Side today. Patrol will be out checking out Witch to Goniff Glade. We also may be able to open Up Your Sleeve to 33 1/3 by the afternoon if our grooming team can push some snowmaking piles on Lower Magic Carpet at the Up Your Sleeve exit to 33 1/3. There is active snowmaking on Lower Magic Carpet (closed) and Hocus Pocus (open) so stay away from snowmaking equipment, wires and hoses there on skiers left side of Hocus. Kyle has been out grooming trails on the East Side today. Conditions are a mix of machine groomed, all-natural packed powder and some firm/variable hard pack. It will be mostly cloudy today with temperatures near 20 degrees at base and teens up top. Patrol will also be out exploring West Side conditions to determine any possible expert-only terrain there for Saturday. Treesking is accessible in in glades on East Side from top down, please exit the woods by 3:15pm for safety purposes and always ski with another person in the woods.

There is no Night Park Friday or Saturday Night with the temperatures dropping.

January 26th 3:00pm Update: For those who will be up in Vermont this weekend, we are closely monitoring a storm Sunday afternoon into Monday morning that may deliver 4-6″. We will keep you posted right here to see if it strengthens or weakens.

10:30 Update: Red Lift and beginner conveyour lift are open. Advanced skiers for summit with firm conditions up top, including the Red Lift off ramp, softer/creamier and more fun as you get down off the summit area. East Side only today as we let the all-natural steeps drain out to preserve snowpack there.

8:15 update: We have a delayed opening until at least 10am until we can further evaluate the safety of opening today. Currently 29 degrees at summit with sleet, snow and rain freezing on contact and putting a groomer out there will make conditions worse. Also, rain freezing on the lift line. We update the weather and conditions situation at 10am.

6:45am: It’s currently a mixed bag of sleet, r**n and freezing r**n with temperatures in the mid to low 30s and it is expected to continue into the afternoon so dress appropriately for these condition. The Red Lift should spin at 9am, no Green Lift today. The beginner conveyor lift will be ready upon request at the ticket window. Patrol will be out assessing the conditions but the groomer cannot get out on these wet surfaces so be aware of that and all-natural trails will be variable with sticky conditions closer to base and perhaps some slick conditions at the top as temps are below freezing up there. We expect the West Side and steeps to be closed temporarily today to preserve the snow there until re-freeze tonight. Definitely a wet, variable day out there and we will have to wait until later when patrol is out on the hill to assess things further. Skis and boards should be waxed for wet snow conditions. Best skiing will be on snowmaking trails like Upper/Lower Carpet, Medium, Wand, Vertigo, Show Off, Hocus Pocus and Little Dipper. There will be no Night Park tonight.

Black Line Quad work is continuing by Pfister Mtn Services with work extending into early February after a brief break.

More about the death at Magic. Everyone playing by the rules, it was that gentleman's time...

Firm and fast today, nice on the corduroy they laid. Got crowded by 11, they sold out the indy pass allotment and had other ski events on the hill. Good to see a crowd finally, that's it's now February is concerning financially.

February 14th 2PM: Magic picked up a surprise 6-8″ last night but with 30-40mph winds and very light powdery snow, it’s blowing off the hard pack/icy surface on the West Side. For tomorrow, patrol indicates the West Side will be closed, due to windblown frozen/icy surfaces. East Side is better protected and should be skiing well with the new snow. Red Chair will spin at 9am Thursday.
