If You Could Only Ski in One NWS CWA...

Bend or Bozeman
Slc is ruined

I know the rule is one but where RIW, BYZ and TFX come together is where I’d pick. Yellowstone, the Beartooths, Taylor Hilgards, the Madison Range… Boz Angeles can grow all it wants but you’ll always find solitude somewhere. It’s vast country with tons of snow and no people. Living there? No brainer.

Agree.

Have an old friend who's been in Medford for quite a while. I think I'd be happier living in Medford year round than Bozeman. It's awfully cold during most of the winter in MT. Medford is an easy drive to Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Ashland is very close by for local weekend skiing. I'd stay in Sun River or Bend for multi-day ski trips.

While SLC/Ogden is still a good place to fly into for a ski vacation using Ikon or Indy, definitely not interested in living there full time. The smog in SLC is terrible!

Ha. This is kind of what got me thinking about the topic. It started with a comment from @TheGreatAbyss on my pass math blog post.

The NYSB weather page I use most is the NWS ALY page. Plattekill is just outside ALY, but hey it's my site, so I've included Plattekill cams, point forecast and snow report on that page, to me it just makes sense :) (Platty is also on the NWS BGM page too.)

If Plattekill was in ALY I could live on Gore, Magic, McCauley and Plattekill.

I want to live and ski in the East. Obviously, from a pure skiing perspective, BTV has some significant advantages over ALY.

In three years I'm hoping/planning to be based on the northern edge of ALY, so it will be Gore, Magic, McCauley, Plattekill, plus WF, Killington, Middlebury, Sugarbush, Smuggs and Jay in BTV. I'm sure I'll make trips into BGM and BUF too.
Plus cross country skiing will be a much bigger part of my life. Adks are great for nordic BC. I can work with that. But yea, that part is not within the rules laid out in the OP.

I admit I am a bit out of the mainstream. That was the point of my front page post.

I think my choice might be different if could choose a primary CWS but also include neighboring regions. Meaning places that are drivable in a day or could be part of a driving ski safari that lasts 5-10 days. Definitely would make a difference in terms of somewhere to live year round.

A larger region would bring northern NM back into the running given that it borders southern CO. In the midst of planning a trip with my crew of 4 (1 in ABQ, 3 flying) next season to go back to Wolf Creek by starting in Albuquerque instead of Denver. Pagosa Springs is closer to ABQ than DEN.

Don't know that much about Spokane as a place to live, but I know it's pretty easy driving distance to Red Mountain just across the Canadian border.

This would be a tough decision. But if money/cost of living was not an issue, probably REV. Living in say Tahoe City would be an incredible jumping off point for a plentitude of skiing and other great trips.

BTV, hands down. While I am addicted to skiing...I also like to drink water. Could be an issue sooner than later for most of those other places out west. Plus, central-northern VT and the daks have awesome skiing.
