Have you ever had your gear stolen?

Ha, yeah, I have Shifts on Volkl M102s. There's a prize for the fleet of foot. I really want cool poles, for once, but, they won't last long.
Get the top Goode carbon fiber poles. People think I’m crazy but it’s a huge jump for performance compared to the average aluminum ski pole.

Back in the 90s at Hunter I had a pair of skis taken off the rack by someone else at lunch time, they left their similar skis near by. Eventually got them back, nothing stolen.

My son had a nice pair of Leki Spitfire Vario poles stolen at Whiteface last year. Pure theft, mid afternoon someone scooped them up and stole them. Distinctive poles, no mixing them up, no similar poles left nearby.

A few years ago my daughter had poles taken at Whiteface also, Bear Den. When everything was gone at the end of the day there was a pair of rental poles abandoned by where her poles were. Mix up? Maybe....but her poles weren’t turned into the rental shop, so who knows.

Bottom line, while having something stolen just sucks, you have no one to blame but yourself. I grew up always separating my skis/poles. Then I got a lock. Over the years you become complacent, stop separating/locking, my kids never got in the habit....then boom! Just separate or lock up your shit, we do now.
I have to say, blaming yourself for assholes being assholes kind of sucks. I grew up in New York and Jersey though so I don’t let things I value out of sight or unsecured, I get it but, it sucks.

I caught a guy lifting my skis once. He pretended to have grabbed the wrong skis accidentally, it was clearly bullshit but I didn’t make a scene or anything. I was literally sitting in the bar with the guy in a circle of friends right before this happened.

we get thrives here on busy weekends. 5 or so years ago Cody was asked to help with some photo work for marketing, one of the photographers was visiting from Durango and he and I went for a lap while Cody worked with another photographer. When we got back to the lodge I noticed some shady looking folks hanging around the ski rack. We were going into the office and I told him to watch his gear, I brought my skis inside he decided to leave his board on the rack. Sure enough his board was gone when we came back out.

Back in the late 80’s/early 90’s the ski tote was an essential part of the high school ski club kit.

the bus rides were often the best part of ski club as we were often exploring our new found adolescent sexuality ?

Somebody gave me one of those second hand back then. I have no idea where they ended up. I was just eyeing some old skinny Elans on Craigslist and there were a couple ski totes in the pic.

Unfortunately....there are a lot of shitty people out there.
I’m a fan of the Leki Vario poles. I have the Carbon.
I broke my goodes three seasons ago on my last tour of the season. Last year my gal got me some carbon black diamond adjustable poles. They are probably comparable to your Lekis. They are really nice but the heavier swing weight and wind drag is extremely noticeable for me. My black diamonds don’t have that forgiving flex like the goodes did too, that a very cool thing to have with a pole. miss my goodes and I’m hoping to get another pair for next year.

I know......I’m a geek comparing gear for performance. It might bore some folks but I really enjoy it.

Do the carbon poles still break when super cold. Watched one break in front of me while on line..the whole tip just broke off about 4 inches from the bottom.

I haven’t seen that ever before. That’s where mine broke but I was whacking the side of my skis to knock off sticky snow that was building up on my climbing skins. They were also around ten years old.
