Greek Peak Conditions

Scrundy, you were not kidding about the whiplash on the quad. Major ow. I do believe that I will avoid it until the carpet works again.

Chair 2 was running yesterday afternoon with no problems. I am told that the lift got some upgrades to the power supply and pony motor and a through inspection from bottom to top. All chairs got bright red new grips in off season, and its running full speed again. It still 60 years old, but the mechanicals are solid. Still last weeks cold related brake lock up was not cool.

I was thinking about the age of chairlifts yesterday. My son has a jacked up 1986 Chevy Silverado, which is 37 years old. It is still solid. It does seem that as long as things are mechanically sound, age shouldn't be an issue.

Meanwhile, what a beautiful morning!

Yesterday was one of the nicest weekend days of teaching and skiing at Greek Peak I've had this winter. I was on the hill at 8:30 and left at 4:30. Despite all 6 chairs running, temperatures in the 40s, a very sunny sky, the crowds stayed home. I guess they were more concerned about getting ready for the Stupid Bowl last night. I don't really know where everyone was, but if you came yesterday, the crowds were much lighter than they've been and the skiing was as good as (this awful winter) gets. All the snow making trails were open and there was enough snow on the connecting trails to make it easy to get around the mountain. Only thorn was that the glades were all officially closed due to thin cover. That didn't stop many skiers from finding them from the top of Chair 2.

Meanwhile, Greek's back office information systems continue to be completely off line. Off line are the IP based phone system, ticket sales, rentals, hotel reservations, room keys, accounting, payroll. Staff is taking reservations over a new phone number and tracking them manually. The ski patrol has published a temporary hill emergency phone number. Greek had to hand write paper checks for all +300 employees this week. The applications that are working are hosted remotely by third parties: the GoPass gates, and Google, Chrome and Apple apps for staff scheduling and the time clock app. No, I have no idea what happened and estimated time to repair has NOT been shared with employees. For me this is just an inconvenience but it's been a nightmare for HR, accounting, reservations, ticket sales, rentals, hotel and security staff. You may see the effects of all this when buying or paying for anything at the resort. Just imagine what having no access to any of the phone lines means.
