Greek Peak Conditions

Got out of work a little early yesterday to grab some Spring turns. I was a little bummed on the drive up as it was pretty overcast in Binghamton at two o'clock despite the mostly sunny weather forecast. As I approached Marathon I could see blue skies ahead. It was mostly sunny at Greek from three till sunset. Skiing was good.

When there were clouds, they were pretty cool looking, and not very sun blocking.

Yesterday was a sweet day to ski with soft snow everywhere, but it sure hardened up once the sun set. There were about 100 5th graders from Athens PA's grade school, most of whom were trying skiing for the first time yesterday morning.... With temps in the mid 40s there were lots of coats piled high in front of Kids World! I will be there this after noon. Temps today are already in the 50s.... I sure hope the cold returns quickly.... we've got to make some snow.... since nature is not giving us much this year.

Wednesday temps got up to 60s and the snow was soft everywhere, even upper Zeus was soft. Snow is thin on Marathon and Epicurus and gone on East Meadow. No crowds, lots of sun, after school kids and regulars. Visions is running again; the loading carpet has been replaced. Also Chairs 3 and 4 and even 2 was spinning from 3 to 7 pm. More normal temperatures are moving in for the weekend and holiday week. Greek plans to fire up snowmaking the first moment it gets cold enough, which should be tomorrow afternoon or night. With no natural snow in the forecast, we really need to fire up the snow makers.

This upcoming week is normally a very busy one. Normally. However, Greek now has no IT system. There is no on-line reservation or ticket system. Non-pass holders purchase a GoPass and load it at the walk up window. We don't have any advance ticket sales data and we don't know if the inability to buy a ticket in advance will hurt sales. Payroll checks are being calculated by HR in off line spreadsheets then handwritten. But nobody's seen a pay stub for a couple of weeks, meaning employees can't confirm if the pay amount is correct. And nobody is talking about why or what happened to IT.

Today was Ice, Ice, Ice. Things are looking better for tomorrow and Sunday. By 3:00 the snow makers were running everywhere and there was lots of natural snow falling from the sky. Lifts 2,3,4,5 and Visions were all spinning despite the lack of crowds.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Emily's friend will text her what happened to the IT department.....LoL
Maybe. Seems like desktops are getting closely examined one by one. Still no public or back office network or Wi-Fi on hill. Greek has bought cellular hotspots for admin staff and you will see different hardware taking credit cards. Older reservation data is accessible to staff. Regular resort phones still down as of last night. Many staff are bringing own laptops in and using own cellular hotspots. Don’t expect speedy cellular data on busy days.
