Gore Mountain Conditions

I assumed that's why there is no plumbing at the summit, top o' straightbrook.
There are many food service and restrooms on the upper mountain in the Rockies with no plumbing. Waterless toilets doesn't need to be a typical plastic-wall porta-potty. Wolf Creek has them in two buildings at the top of lifts, as well as at the base of the Alberta & Elma lifts on the other side from the main base.

I have heard that when the gondola and trails were first built on Bear, the plan was to build some kind of lodge there (if it was to replace Saddle Lodge, that would have made Gore even more gondola-centered). That’s likely why they bulldozed such a large area. That ship probably sailed when it was found to be all bedrock. Tough place for a septic large enough for bathrooms and food service.
That makes sense, all the rock. I never thought about that. To Milo's point, another case of poor planning.

I am a Gore homer for 20 years. Over my time as an ORDA passholder, I have occasionally been frustrated, disappointed, discouraged and often confused about how the mountain is run. But this year, I have reached a new low…I am disgusted. I do not care the order in which they open things…the fact that on December 27th they plan to open 30/108 trails when Whiteface has 69% of the mountain open, Stowe has 400 acres of top to bottom skiing and Killington has 122 of 155 trails open is entirely unacceptable. These mountains are in similar climates to ours and are delivering a vastly different product. Gore has no excuse. There needs to be some accountability: someone with the State of New York, or ORDA needs to step in and review where we are and what needs to happen.
Yes to all of this! My speculation was something about lack of staff. I also liked the pumping system needs to be upgraded reason.

I wonder if there are blogs for other mountains where people just complain all day about things but then come back year after year? Once the Zippy thing (which is now and forever how I will refer to it) is in place and the lodge is done what will we complain about? :ROFLMAO:

Plenty of people complaining about Sugarbush past couple years on Reddit.

On the lack of terrain. No excuse for the lack of snowmaking. However, it should be noted when comparing Gore to WF or Belle, Gore has gotten about half the natural snow this season this far as WF of Belle. Gore has 25, Belle has 50, WF 60. That's a lot less natural to work with than elsewhere.

Again not an excuse but does make a difference. I'm in no way defending the slow start

Like I said plumbing and restrooms are not the same thing.

The Gore summit has restrooms, but it has no plumbing.

The answer is yes. Generally they tend to be forums, not blogs. Like this one.

Alpine Zone, K Zone, etc, etc.

The people who return year after year often have ties ... social groups, race teams, real estate... that keep them coming back.

Why do you keep coming back?

sheesh, was planning on doing our annual gore/pico/magic skifari in a few weeks, should I be re-thinking the gore stop?

This is what I am getting from mgmt.
Obviously a much bigger discussion, but I wonder if ORDA has explored employee transportation options for residents further south - Queensbury, Saratoga, Lake George, etc., as I’m sure that is half the battle for anyone 18-25 years old. I’m probably just talking out of my a@*, but I can’t help thinking of all the exchange student employees I’ve met in mountains over the years who were given room and board by the resort. Not an option for Gore since they have no dormitories, but what seems to be the main issue is that the young folks of the greater Johnsburg area are not trying to work in Johnsburg, and a transportation option seems like a potential solution. Again, I’m ignorant of the details of what I’m proposing, but I can’t help but wonder if there is an untapped demographic in some of those southern towns/cities.
